I have come to realize MOST of the looks I share with you all on the blog are centered around skirts or dresses, and granted, while I wear skirts and dressed 90% of the time, there are many times that I do wear pants (and it's usually on those days that people do a double take of me). Therefore, I thought I would share this fun 1960's Cigarette pants inspired look with you all.
I tend to be someone who creates an outfit based off one particular piece of clothing or an accessory (anyone else do this). I will typically find a new piece at the thrift store or pull a piece out of my closet and from there I start pulling other clothes, accessories, and jewelry that I feel tell the story the original piece of clothing is telling. Therefore, this look was created after I found this sweater at Goodwill and picked up this scarf at a local antique store.
I have always thought that pale baby blue is one of the prettiest colors (also its the Cinderella color so...) and when I found this 60's style sweater at Goodwill I knew that it would be a perfect additon to my closet. After settling on this sweater I continued the 60's theme by pulling in this fabulous striped scarf to use in my hair (which happens to be a super easy and fun vintage hairstyle). I completed the look by grabbing my brown cigarette pants, which seemed like the perfect piece to pull the entire look together. I finished this off by slipping on a pair of ballet flats and grabbing my new favorite thrifted H&M purse.
The finished look turned out to be one of my new favorite combos. Somehow I always forget how simple and classic capri pants are and I need to start wearing them more! I also forgot how much I LOVE the 60's......well, the pants and sweaters, and pearls, and scarves, because let's be honest....with my legs all of the dresses are shirts (#tallgirlproblems)....

Thank you Lauren, it is kind of like an Audrey look. As for the bows, I actually make most of them, but I am planning to do a post on that soon:)

ReplyDeleteThis may be a silly question, but I have been in the habit of buying (or making) vintage /inspired/ clothes. How can you tell if something is truly vintage if you are purchasing it from a thrift store? Do you know certain labels, or the styles, or do certain places even mark them as "vintage?" I, for one, am a little clueless unless the articles were given to me from someone I know, or slightly more obvious pieces like long gloves from an antique store.
Skyeler, thanks for asking such a great question about vintage shopping! I really need to do a post on this soon, but here are my tips:
Delete1) IF you look at labels, many times you can tell if it is vintage based off of that....they will be embroidered an always look old. For true experts (not me) they know all the vintage brands and this helps them.
2) Styles definitely plays into it, but you also have to look at other characteristics if you find a vintage style pieced, because it could easily be a vintage reproduction.
3) Many vintage pieces have hand sewn details, be it hems, etc. so any hand sewing you find on garments is a sure sign they are vintage.
4) Metal zippers!
5) Fabric: if you know a bit about textiles fabric is a great way to tell if something is vintage. A lot of 40's and 50's pieces are synthetic fibers because that was starting to come into production at that time.

The short-sleeved mockneck/tailored pants combo is one that I usually wear once or twice a week to work, so I loved seeing you style it!! 60s fashion is so fun, too--I love watching the Mission Impossible television series from those years, because all of Cinnamon's outfits are just so darling.

I love the 60s so much! It's definitely my favorite fashion decade, And because of that I'm making two 1960s shift dresses, one for my sister and one for me for Easter 🤗 Love this outfit so much Madison 😍 You always do such a good job😊

Cigarette pants forever! I'm a big fan of skinny pants in general, but I love the '60s vibe from these. And your scarf is the perfect finishing touch!
