Madison Travels: 24 Hours In Austin

Tuesday, May 30, 2017

If you follow along with me on Instagram you may remember my recent road trip with my college roommate. We hit a number of stops along our travels and I thought it would be fun to share some of those with you all. The first installment of my road trip recap is 24 Hours In Austin. We camped at McKinney falls and hit Austin for one of our first stops along our trip and that day was JAM PACKED full of exciting adventures. Keep reading to see where we went and add it to your list next time you are in the Austin area:

  1. Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center - If you love flowers you HAVE to check this place out the next time you are in Austin. There are botanical gardens, butterflys, walking trails, and so much more! Its definitely family friendly and they have a really cool water fall area and kid section where you can build your own Tipi. My favorite part of this stop was finding out there is such a thing as a "chocolate flower" and it seriously smells like CHOCOLATE! You do have to pay to get in, but if you bring your student ID you get a discount, but even with the cost it is totally worth it.
  2. Mayfield Park - Okay....so this place was THE COOLEST! Its this quaint little historic manor home near downtown Austin and its greatest attraction is Peacocks! YES....there are literally just like 8 peacocks who live on the premesis and wander around freely. It was so cool walking around the grounds, exploring the pond, walking through the flower garden, and seeing the beautiful birds.
  3. Modcloth - If you are in the Austin area you HAVE to stop by the Modcloth store that is now there! Modcloth has always been one of my favorite online brands and now that they have a storefront in Austin its the perfect spot to stop and be able to brows their collection in person and try on pieces for yourself.
  4. Prototype Vintage - Okay....so I have heard for years how Austin has the greatest vintage shops and how I NEEDED to go and check them out and I finally got to stop off at one when I was there. I stopped by Prototype Vintage on Congress and OH MY GOSH was it the GREATEST thing ever! I  don't think anything quit compares to walking into a vintage store and realizing that you have stepped into another world....one that you feel totally at home in:) It was like stepping into a treasure chest and I was in heaven.
  5. Soup Peddler- Okay.....so I might or might not have totally stalked Instagram Austonians to see where their favorite places to eat were, but it paid off when we found this place which was AMAZING!!! Not only is it a healthy stop, but if you like DELICIOUS grilled cheeze and tomato basil soup (what we got) than you have to check out one of there many locations...plus they are totally affordable.
  6. HEY CUPCAKE - It's a tradition of mine to check out at least one cupcake place whenever I am in a new city and "Hey Cupcake" is a top stop in Austin so of course I had to check it out. Not only is it the cutest place, being housed in a vintage airstream with a giant cupcake on top, but their cupcakes are pretty good:) They are also found along Congress so you can stop by after checking out Prototype Vintage.

Have you even hit any of these spots in Austin?

Southern Stripes & Sunflowers

Dress: c/o StyleWe
Shoes: Marshalls
Purse: Everly Oak
Sunglasses: Five Below

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY! I hope all of you are enjoying your day with friends and family, while taking time to reflect on all of those who have given their lives for the freedom we have today.

I personally am taking a slow and lazy day with my family and will probably be going over to my grandparents house later today for a movie night. However, I have been a bit absent from the blog lately (and really have been missing it + have a lot of fun stuff coming soon) and thought I would share this fun style post that I did thanks to my partnership with Style We

I recently had the privilege of collaborating with Style We again, and this darling striped dress was one of the styles they sent me. If you followed the link to the dress you will see that my dress is a bit different now:) When I received the dress I ended up being a bit short when I got it, so I decided to add this eyelet lace extender and LOVE how it turned out!

Many of you know that I LOVE stripes as a print, so this dress was a no brainer to choose, especially with its classic southern style. I love this unique take on a shirtwaist style and the tie sleeves are absolutely my favorite part! I was quite surprised at how comfortable and cool this dress was and will definitely be wearing this many times throughout the coming months.

Of course a southern dress is not complete without a bouquet of sunflowers, summery white sandals, a wicker purse, sunglasses, and a simple bow ribbon.

We Bought A Zoo

Monday, May 22, 2017

Skirt: Made (Vintage Sheet)
Top/Dress: c/o Zaful
Shoes: Modcloth (Salt Water Sandals
Bag: Thrifted
Hat: Forever 21
Belt: Thrifted
Necklace: Vintage
If you haven't noticed it already, this post really has nothing to do with the zoo (or the movie related to this title which I haven't even seen), besides the fact that this location reminds me of the zoo (weird I know). Our local zoo in Houston has quite an array of bamboo scattered throughout the grounds, and as soon as I happened upon this picture location that vision immediately came to my mind. Truly, there is something very unique about the zoo with the location, architecture, landscape, and animals and I am somehow always reminded of day outings taken back in the 1900's.

As soon as I discovered this quaint corner near campus I of course started thinking of an outfit I wanted to take pictures of here, and settled on this mixed print ensemble. This look was actually created by layering this floral skirt over a yellow gingham dress that has been sitting around in my closet. I of course finished off the look with a brown belt and matching sandals, grabbed by straw hat, and this darling straw bag that I found at goodwill recently.

All in all this is probably one of my favorite looks that I have photographed recently because it filled me with such excitement to capture something that felt so perfectly "me" and a look I am always trying to go for (really just trying to copy A Clothes Horse). I also managed to get an early start to take these pictures and was able to capture a bit of morning "golden hour" which made me EXTRA excited!

However, that is all I have for now because I am currently on a week long road trip with my college roommate! If you want to see what we are up to make sure to follow along on my Instagram and Insta stories for all the fabulous adventures:)

Stripes & Spring Sneakers

Tuesday, May 16, 2017

Pants: Thrifted (Talbots)
Shirt: Thrifted (Jones New York)
Shoes: Rack Room (Limelight)
Purse: EverlyOak
Necklace: Kendra Scott

You would have thought that since I had no finals this semester (which meant a week with no work college related) that I would have been posting blog content out of the wazoo, but that was completely NOT the case!

Time completely got away from me last week, with spring checkouts and packing up ALL MY STUFF to move back home. To top it off, this weekend was full of attending college graduations for some dear friends and Monday I spent the entire day (really like 9 hours) unpacking, culling, and reorganizing all of my stuff that I brought back from college (which was a LOT)!

So here's the thing, even though I have like 3 awesome shoots sitting on my computer to post, life was still crazy and the thought of sitting down to write a post seemed daunting amongst all the tasks at hand, but alas, today I bring you this casual and fabulous spring/summer look.

I have had these pants since the fall and wear them at last twice a week. I love them because while they are denim, the cut and pockets make them look a bit more dressy and I can get away with dressing them up or down (plus they are so comfortable). Of course, what would summer denim be without stripes and I am so in love with this tshirt that I picked up at Goodwill. However, the icing on the cake are these absolutely perfect white spring sneakers! I had seen a lot of people this season with the cutest sneakers and took props from Olivia with this particular pair. I have seen Olivia on multiple occasions pair white sneakers with a slightly fancy top and denim, and totally love the paring so I thought I would try it for myself and I am hooked!

I have always been a converse and keds kinda girl (and still am) but because of the lace cutout details on these sneakers I can actually get away with making these more dressy and that is a total BONUS! I'm curious to see how I will continue to style these throughout the season, but for now this is my new favorite thing:)

Are you a sneaker person?
