Blanket Scarf 4 Ways

Saturday, January 28, 2017

If there is one fall/winter accessory that is a great versatility piece it would have to be the blanket scarf! This cozy and flowy scarf is the perfect piece to grab as you run out the door. It can be used as a scarf, shawl, or blanket when it gets a bit chilly. With it's versatility there are an endless amount of ways you can style a blanket scarf, so keep on reading for my top 4 ways you can style yours:

Square Fold:
This style is achieved by folding the square scarf in half two times or more for a boxy style.

The Swag:
This style is achieved by folding the scarf corner to corner and then draping it around your
shoulders for an elegant "swag".

Modern Prep:
If there is one blanket scarf style we are familiar with it is this one! This style is achieved by folding the scarf corner to corner, draping it in front of you (with the point facing down) and then crossing the ends behind your neck and draping them back to the front sides.

Twist & Turn:
I actually created this style while taking pictures and LOVE how it turned out! This style is achieved by folding the scarf corner to corner and then twisting it into a long snake shape. Drape around you neck leaving one side longer in the front, then take that longer side and cross it in front of the other side, pull behind and bring it back down to the front. Lastly pull the back end up and over the front cross piece, and then pulling it down and to the side.

Sweater: Thrifted (Croft & Barrow)
Scarf: Target

Now it's your turn! Grab your blanket scarf or use this as an excuse to finally buy one and try out theses styles for yourself.

"Adventure is worthwhile in itself."
-Amelia Earhart

I think one of the things I miss most about being in college (and having a slightly rigorous schedule) is not having time for adventures. To be honest, having the time to visit new places is one think I am looking forward to after graduating....anyone want to join me? As odd as that might sound, I have come to look forward to the times I can visit a new place, or discover the perfect picture spot. Thankfully, I still get to revisit my favorite places each week to take pictures, but that is usually only because I quickly fit it into my day and don't get the time to actually cherish and soak it all in. Adventures are something that I have truly grown fond of and try to take the most of every opportunity I get to have them.

With that being said, adventures call for "adventure worthy" outfits and nothing says a perfect and golden adventure like a warm plaid jacket to keep you cozy and a mustard barret hat. Warm and bright colors (like mustard) seem to be the perfect choice when exploring new places and exude a feeling of fresh ideas and new found inspiration.

Rise & Grind in Menswear

Thursday, January 19, 2017

Pants: Thrifted
Sweater: Vintage
Collard Shirt: Thrifted
Socks: Sam Moon
Shoes: Target
Purse: c/o Gamiss
Pin: Charming Charlie's

Looking back on this outfit and even wearing it, I feel like I should be in a 1950's news room, drinking copious amounts of coffee and smoking a cigar as colleagues click away on typewriters and the boisterous voices of reporters drift through the smoke laden air.......

Truthfully I have never really been into "menswear" style nor tried it for myself until recently and I have to say that it is growing on me. When I took a trip to Goodwill before school started back (to get a few more professional pieces) I stumbled upon these navy and red pin striped pants and just had to try them on. Of course after trying them on I was completely sold as they were high waisted, unique, and extremely comfortable.

When it comes to the topic of Menswear I quite like the idea that we have the ability to take a seemingly masculine piece and put a classic and feminine spin on it. While these pants were actually women's slacks (probably from the 80's) they were a looser style and easily not quite as feminine as other slacks or skirts. However, I liked the challenge of adding pieces to create a classic reporter style ensemble. Top off the look with sheer socks for a bit of ladylike flair and this adorable "Rise & Grind" coffee lapel and you are ready to grab your notebook and hit the town searching for the next big story!

Have you ever played with menswear style?
How do you take a more masculine piece and make it more ladylike?

Oh Deer

Thursday, January 12, 2017

Sweater: Old Navy
Skirt: Thrifted
Tights: Old Navy
Socks: Old Navy
Boots: old
Belt: Thrifted
Jacket: Thrifted (Old Navy)

As much as I had planned on getting off to a good start on blogging for the year, the time got away from me as I was busy wrapping up my To Do list and packing up once again for my spring semester. Once I got settled back at college it was then off to RA training so I just now sat down to write up a post for these pictures that have been sitting around on my computer.

Back when we went Black Friday shopping I grabbed this sweater (because....um....the deer print) and of course had to get these matching deer print socks. To be honest, I really just got them so that I could wear them in a post for the blog (sometimes that is how my mind works). However, I don't know about you, but there is just something soooo classic about deer print sweaters and ever since I saw "A Princess For Christmas" with Jules fabulous sweater dress I have always wanted a piece with the same print, so this sweater seemed to fit the bill.

Nevertheless, while it is currently warm outside the day I ventured out to take these pictures it was the perfect cool and wintery weather. Due to that, I went for a few layers by adding a collard shirt under the sweater, tights along with the boots and socks, and finished off the look with a light adventure ready jacket to keep me warm.

This ensemble turned out to be one of my favorites that I have put together in awhile, maybe it was because of the sweater, or the button front green corduroy skirt, but whatever the case it felt so right! Sometimes I find pieces that work well together, or certain styles, and those combos are always the ones that make me feel like "ME" and give me an extra boost of confidence, just like this student meets adventurer, meets vintage lover, meets nature enthusiast ensemble!

Do you like deer print sweaters?
Do you have styles that just feel  RIGHT?
