Person: "Did you do something different with your hair?"
Me: "Yes, I cut bangs!"
(every comment from this past week)
SURPRISE! Well.....probably not that much of a surprise if you caught this weekends post or follow me on Instagram, but I took the plunge and cut bangs, and when I say "cut" I mean that I cut them myself......yes, you heard that right!

Okay, so flash back to my Junior year of High School when I had hair down to my waist and decided to cut bangs (basically I was just copying Taylor Swift). However, when I decided to cut them the first time I failed to watch a really good tutorial and I totally did not know what I was doing! They didn't turn out horribly, but they were definitely to thick and not as flattering as I had imagined, thus after 6 months I decided to grow them back out. Three years later I have chopped off my hair to shoulder length, then went for long bob (which is back at shoulder length), and now I have gone for bangs again.....but here's the funny story!

I had been toying with the idea of bangs since spring break when I got my hair cut shorter (again I just see to be copying Taylor Swift's hairstyles), however I never could get up the nerve to go get them cut or find the exact style that I wanted. Then, last weekend one of my best friends was up at college staying with me and well....we decided to cut bangs. The sum of the story is that we sat down to do homework (which we both had a lot of) and 20 minutes later we found ourselves watching hair tutorials for cutting bangs, hopping in the car and buy scissors at Walgreens, and then proceeding to CUT BANGS!!!

Thankfully, this time I knew what I was doing because I found some FABULOUS hair tutorials HERE and HERE (if you are thinking of cutting your own bangs check them out!). The fact is that I have always been one to cut my own bangs because every time I would get bangs (usually only side) cut at a salon I never liked them and I feel that when I cut them myself I have more control (plus I can't get upset if they turn out wrong). After having bangs for a week now, I am still getting used to them, but definitely LOVE how they change up my hairstyle and are truly perfect for fall!.

Also, can we just talk about how FAB this Lula Roe dress (that I thrifted at Goodwill) is! Totally in love with the simple a classic silhouette which definitely pairs perfectly with my new "Introvert" lapel pin from Shop Luella, and this super fun and colorful satchel purse.

Any of you toying with getting bangs?
Have you ever cut your own hair?

  1. I love your bangs! Super cute. I've wanted to try bangs for years but I'm way too nervous to take the plunge!

  2. I have had bangs nearly all my life. When my hair got curly, it made them harder to control. So I grew a large portion of them out, and I only have a little left, that I try to control. I just can't deal with think bangs. Most often my bangs are swept to the side. I rarely cover my whole brow with them anymore. (It doesn't exactly help that I am interested in the 1940's, so I don't want to deal with them too much, but I am too much of a chicken to grow them all out.) And yes, I have cut my own hair, several times. Although, I may not do that too much now. With my curly hair, I do better when I have layers in it, and it isn't too far beyond shoulder length.

    1. For the longest time I did avoid bangs because I was (just like you) all about 40's fashion, but since my style has become more of a mix of modern and vintage I thought now would be a good time to try something different:)

  3. I've cut my hair twice, both times I tried to have a tapered look but it ended up being more like bangs,😁 Each time I was over due for a hair cut and each time my mom got me in right away to get it fix/cut (I have curly hair so it's slightly more forgiving). Now the only two people who I alow cut my hair is my sister and her mentor both are certified cosmetologist and have certification in cutting curly hair 🤗. Now that I have such amazing cuts I'm never cutting my own hair again. BTW your dress is lovely!!!! I would love to know how you get such amazing photos by your self!! Love them so much!!!

    1. That's so helpful and convenient that your sister is a licensed cosmetologist! Thanks for your sweet comment. Also, in regards to how I take my own pictures I think I will create a blog post about that soon because the process is a little wordy for a comment:)

  4. I got bangs when I was younger and they did not suit me at all! I also found them too much work because they always looked crazy when I'd wake up in the morning haha. But I love them on you! And I am so in love with that purse!! Can't believe you thrifted it!

    1. Okay....I admit that bangs are actually a lot of work...When I wake up in the morning it is definitely a sight to behold with a mess of hair in my face, but after I blow dry them they are always better. I can totally see you with a purse like this:)

  5. Your bangs look great, welcome to the club! ;) I cut my own at home which is always scary at first, but it's better than having to run out to the salon every few weeks. BUT a lot of salons will do free or inexpensive bang trims for maybe $5 (at least around Atlanta), so that's always an option!

  7. Fabulous look! The silhouette of this dress is really charming and paired with your hair in that style, I get a total 21st take on Bardot's iconic 60 style.
