If I am being honest there are days where I feel completely uninspired and unmotivated to put together a vintage ensemble. Quite honestly the past couple of months I feel have been void of true vintage fashion and only sprinkled here and there with ensembles that only look somewhat vintage inspired. Maybe it's that I have classes every day and therefore always want to wear something nice and maybe the constant need to create the perfect look has become a chore and left me void of inspiration and looking like I stepped out of a different decade?

Maybe it's also that I became so focused on not standing out so drastically (vintage wise) when it came to my wardrobe, but then again when had that ever stopped me in the past? I was feeling lost when it came to vintage fashion and thankfully this past Saturday I was renewed with my love for what vintage fashion truly means to me! Even if I only wore this ensemble for 30 minutes as I ventured across campus to take pictures (I was planning on running errands in this but my car wouldn't start) it was completely worth it! As odd as it may seem, the simple task of putting pieces together for this look gave me a renewed energy for incorporating vintage back into my wardrobe. It was an ensemble that gave the the courage again to be BOLD and be fully vintage and not worry about what others might think of me, but simply enjoy stepping back in time:) When I think about what vintage fashion means to me.....this look seems to encompass it all and make everything feel right!

Being someone who wears vintage isn't always easy for me at times! I know that seems weird, but I guess its because I always feel like the "only one" who loves to dress this way. None of my close friends have the same fashion style as me and I have yet to meet any people or bloggers in my area that have the same love of vintage fashion. That is why blogging is such a big part of my life! It connects me with all of you wonderful and lovely people who are just like me in many respects and therefore when it comes to fashion I know I will always have a place to belong because of Minnie Muse!

After looking over these photos again and loving all the pieces that were part of this ensemble it makes me excited for Summer break (6 more days)! For me, summer break is a time for adventures, antique shopping, picnics, trips to the beach and so much more. Therefore, I am rejuvenated with a desire to be ALL vintage and re-embrace the olden days once again! I also can't wait to have my entire closet to choose from (as I only have part of it up at college with me). Here's to hoping the next few months will bring more vintage ensembles to the blog!

Do you ever feel void of vintage/fashion inspiration?
What ensembles make you happy?

P.S. This months InStyle magazine has some great style inspiration as well as some great articles including one on Chris Evans for any of you Captain America fans!!

  1. Oddly enough, this morning I had the full energy and dedication to devote to brushing out a pin curl set and to try to do some forties style makeup...after putting on an old shirt that developed a hole the second I put it on and some leggings. I feel like this time of year (finals for me) is the hardest to try to get some looking nice and vintage-y motivation! Best of luck with the end of your semester!

  2. First off, I love your outfit! The colors really sing together. I'm glad you're rediscovering your love for vintage clothes--you pull off vintage ensembles so well! I can relate to how you're feeling; I'm going through a bit of a style identity crisis right now, but I'm still trying to figure out what direction my style is going to take me next!

  4. You have no idea how much you inspire me to dress boldly, even if it isn't in as true a vintage fashion as you dress. But I feel your struggle. There are days when it's easier to put on shorts and a tshirt. There is nothing the matter with dressing normal, but we shouldn't let "normal" and "busy" hinder how God has created us to express ourselves.

I wore two rather nice outfits this week (celebrating the last week of school), and people commented several times how I always dress nice and how this intimidates them. There is a point where those comments get old, but I don't want to let them stop me from being me.

Thank you for writing out your heart on this post and representing vintage fashion is such a graceful way!

  5. This outfit is positively adorable Madison! I love your skirt, and that seashell necklace is just the icing on the cake.

I do sometimes feel void of outfit inspiration. There are some days where all I want to do is throw on a t-shirt and skirt and call it done. Thankfully I have curated my wardrobe in such a way that it pushes me to make an outfit that has more depth to it than just that. :) I have found that having a small amount of pieces that I know work and look good together helps when I am in a wardrobe slump, even if that means I am a little sick and tired of the "same old-same old" by the end of the season.

    1. I really do admire that you have created a wardrobe in which you it is organized to be able to pick out an outfit even when you are uninspired. I really need to go through mine and do something like that.

  6. Such an adorable outfit, Madison! I really love those pieces together. It reminds me of something you might find in a 1950s Vogue or Harpers Bazaar!

  7. Fun outfit! It reminds me of the Mexican-inspired looks of the 50's, and seems to be looking forward to summer. :)
Oh, I know what you mean about lacking inspiration! Working in an office, I have to dress somewhat nicely every day. Though I enjoy dressing up, it can be imagination sapping to try and achieve the temperature/environment appropriate look every day.

    1. It kind of does look Mexican! I dressing up for class is definitely a lot like dressing up for work...after a while it can become monotonous.

  8. It definitely seems to be normal to go through phases and slumps in wardrobe inspiration. I'm actually a nanny, so although I'm out of the house daily, I don't often wear much makeup or wear many dresses to my job. XD I've collected an assortment of vintage inspired, or at least classier, outfits to wear that are also comfortable to put on before 6AM! There is definitely a balance to be had between making personal fashion a chore and ignoring it entirely. You always have such inspiring ensembles!

  9. Fantastic ensemble! That skirt is simply incredible. What a marvelous make.

It really can be challenging at times to be the only vintage wearer in your area for sure. I commend you on continuing to dress in a way that brings you joy. Please know that we, the online vintage community, are always here to support and cheer you on in your awesome old school style endeavours.

    Many hugs,
