Christmas is just around the corner, and with it comes a slew of Christmas parties, family gathering, holiday celebrations, and New Year parties. When it comes to parties, especially around this festive time of year I am always thinking about the perfect ensemble to wear to any holiday gathering. If you remember this post, I talked about finding happiness in the little details of outfits, and this festive Christmas look takes all of that into consideration. 

I always love pulling in shades of the season into my looks, so this green vintage dress seemed like the perfect piece to pull out for a holiday party! Since the dress is green, it was only fitting that I paired a red belt with it to give it a more "christmasy" pop:) With all the colors of the look, I chose to play it simple, yet classic for my shoes and opted for this FABULOUS pair of Michael Kors nude block heels that I found for $8 at Goodwill......seriously my best steal ever! 

However, nothing quite pulls a look together better than jewelry, and I am completely obsessed with these gold double ball drop earrings from Happiness Boutique......absolutely so classic and they give me so much retro inspiration I could seriously wear them with everything, but party wear is their true calling! 

From classic heel and gold ball drop earring, to green dresses and plaid bows, this look has everything I need for a Holiday party, or Christmas Tea, or really whatever fancy "christmasy" thing I feel up to trying:)

Social media will never cease to amaze me with its ability in connecting people who live in different places, states, and countries. I have met so many wonderful people through social media and I am always thrilled when I meet fellow "Kindred Spirits" who share many of my same loves. The dress I am wearing in this post happens to be a true treasure from a dear Kindred Spirit in Canada! I don't even remember how we even met, but it probably had to do something with Tea, Anne of Green Gables, or The Royal Family (of which we are both obsessed)? And it seems like each time we post something we learn that we are even more alike, for example we are both in the 1%-2% of our personality types (which explains a lot). 

I couldn't get over how perfect this dress was when she asked if she could send it to me! You know people are kindred spirits when they understand your love for vintage, plaid, and also say that the dress is very "Taylor Swift" which I 100% agree with, and was thrilled to add it to my collection. Vintage has always held a special place in my heart, not only for its classic style, timeless prints, and artful craftsmanship, but also for it's story. And while I don't know the original story of this dress and the many adventures it had before my friend in Canada had it, I do know it has been worn to meet the cast of one of my favorite Canadian Period Drama Mystery TV shows called Murdoch Mysteries. It's a treasure in and of itself and as soon as I saw it I knew it would make the PERFECT Thanksgiving dress.

The dress itself has so many rich autumn colors so I decided to draw out more of those hues with my accessories. Since it was a bit chilly on Thanksgiving I paired this vintage mustard sweater (that belonged to my grandmother) with the dress which really drew out the golden yellow tones (which are my favorites). To finish off the look I grabbed my ruby red purse and slipped into my favorite pair of flat loafers and called it a day. You know me and dressing for the occasion :) so this dress was absolutely the perfect piece for a Thanksgiving feast!

I don't know what it is about fall that draws me to 70's style, but every year as October draws near and the weather starts to cool I automatically reach for denim jumpers, funky floral prints, striped turtleneck sweaters, bold tights, and ankle boots!

Oddly enough, I used to think that dressing like the 70's meant donning bold and colorful prints, braided crowns, shiny boots, and peace signs, but as the years have gone by I have realized that true 70's style is so much more classic and appropriate for the cooler months, when the leaves fade into warm colors and the breeze whispers through the trees. If you have ever watched "That 70's Show" you probably know exactly what I am talking about when it comes to 70's fashion.

Denim jumpers seem to be my fall staple every year, and I recently found this perfect number at a local thrift store. Originally it was much longer (talk about unflattering) but I knew that with a bit of tweaking I could make it look like something from Madewell (mission accomplished). I decided to pair this denim jumper with one of my grandmothers funky polyester tops which came straight from the 70's, and if any print described the time, this would be it:) I finished off the look with brown accessories, gold hoops, and darker shades of makeup. I can definitely say with certainty that this jumper will be on repeat throughout the season!

I've never been the most scientific person in my family. While my brother could recite everything about the solar system, black holes, space travel, etc. I am more apt to just watch space shows with a thriving interest and curiosity. Interstellar, The Martian, Apollo 13, and Hidden Figures (which features my favorite Astronaut) are movies that interest me because they are filled with adventure, suspense, space travel, and loads of scientific language that I don't understand (but greatly appreciate). With that being said, as I have shared on the blog before, Astronaut Wives Club is one of my favorite TV shows because it centers around the start of the NASA space program and follows the first astronauts and their wives as they are part of the Mercury pivotal Mercury 7 program.

It is because of my great interest in the history of the NASA space program that I was so excited to take a field trip to Space Center Houston with my brother and parents. Both my parents are science teachers and my brother has always wanted to be an astronaut so taking a trip to NASA with them was such a fun day (even if we got rained on). I am pretty sure I was only about 11 the last time I visited Space Center Houston so going back as an adult who knows more and appreciates history was such a treat. It was so cool walking around, looking at displays, and recognizing the names of the first astronauts in Mercury 7 and even a more current astronaut whose book I read for one of my college classes.

If you are not familiar with Space Center Houston, it is the visitor center of the National Aeronautics ans Space Administration's (NASA) center for human space activities. However, while the space center itself is more of a museum with exhibits and artifacts, you are also able to take a tour of the entire NASA headquarters located on site, including the original Mission Control Center and the astronaut training center.

With my undying love for the TV show Astronaut Wives club and the styles of the late 60's it was a no brainer that I chose to take cues from the stylish wives of past astronauts in choosing my ensemble for the day! Looking back on what the original astronaut wives wore, I settles on this blue vintage shirtwaist dress, a simple brown purse, close toed sandals, and an old pair of vintage clip on earrings.

I have always said that clothes have the power to transport you to a different place or era, and on this particular day that phrase was so accurate. I felt like I truly had stepped back in time and into the midst of the Mercury 7 program and I couldn't have been happier reliving pivotal points in our nations history and the science of space travel :)
