It is indeed spring time with all the colors of the rainbow but unfortunately here in Texas spring also brings the dreadful heat and humidity...so basically it is summer. Nonetheless, the sweltering humidity will not keep me from embracing all that I love about spring, such as the many flowers, smells, breezes, birds, bees, and colors all around me.
Well dear readers, I did say that I would be giving you all a post early this week so here it is, my latest project (yay for summer free time till summer school starts). This is the dress I made to wear to the graduation for four of my good friends. As always is the case with me I do so love an upcomming event in which I have the excuse to make a new dress and plan an ensemble:)
And as you also know, I love to sew with sheets so this was another sheet dress and it turned out fabulously! Daisies are my ALL TIME FAVORITE flower and thus I loved this fabric even more (at least I think these are daisies on the fabric, or some such specimen of daisies). I decided to make this dress as a 50's style sun dress one, because I am severely lacking many dresses of that versatile fashion and two, because the fabric fit with the design. I drafted the bodice from a pattern I had laying around which used fitted "Princess Seams." The skirt, I cut from the bottom of the sheet where there was a large hem. I love to cheat on projects so by cutting the skirt this way I didn't even have to hem it..hehe :) Then, because I wanted something unique and classic I decided to make a folded/pleated (I guess?) you could say waistband which definitely completed the dress!
Now, for a little more about what I wore and what I loved (Which was a lot!). If any of you readers saw my post Current Obsession than you might have already notices this ensemble is almost a perfect combination of a cheery lemon yellow and a romantic lavender. This dress is such a lovely shade of light yellow which I can surprisingly pull off and of course what is the completion of my spring color pallet without Lavender nail polish:) Lets just say that I loved my nails and everything about my ensemble that day! Oh, and least I forget about shoes and a necklace which can so make or break any ensemble. While shopping earlier in the week with my sister I picked up a daisy statement necklace at Icings which was having a sale ($5 for all necklaces) so that was perfect in and of itself. But let us not forget about shoes.....which I picked up at Old Navy that same shopping day for $10 (on sale) and the best part is that they look like Swedish Hasbeens!!! I had been wanting a pair of Swedish Hasbeens but just didn't have the funds or heart to spend that much on a pair of shoes quite yet, so when I saw these shoes I knew it was fate :)
I can say for certain that this dress, these shoes, and my new daisy necklace are going to get quite a bit of wear this spring/summer!

Thank you for that sweet comment. I don't think I even realized how the color of my shoes looked with my dress but you are so right!
