At the start of Quarantine (back in March) I threw myself back into sewing and extending my knowledge of design and sewing techniques. I have created MANY THINGS since then, but my favorite project has definitely been recreating one of my dream dresses, this Strawberry Tulle dress, from the New York designer Lirika Matoshi. 

I have been following this designer on Instagram for about a year and have always loved all the dresses, especially the strawberry tulle one, so I decided to try and make it myself. This was definitely a project a bit outside my comfort zone since I had never worked with tulle or sequins before, but it ended up being easier than I thought! 

I started my project by making a muslin mock up of the bodice, using pattern pieces I had adapted from my slopper set. After I had worked out the adjustments on my bodice I started on my dress, which involved a LOT of gathering, layering, and problem solving. I ended up using about 5 yards of each tulle fabric and absolutely LOVE how it turned out!

It feels like FOREVER since I have posted something on the blog! Student teaching has definitely put my life in a while different gear work and time wise. Oddly enough however, I have actually had the entire week off, but blogging just didn't seem like a top priority with everything else going on.
If you keep up with the news you might have heard about Hurricane Harvey that hit the coast of Texas and Houston. Thankfully my family and I didn't have any damage from the storm, but sadly we know a number of people who lost their homes.

Seeing the destruction that hit Houston and other towns was heartbreaking and seeing the number of people who lost their homes and all their possessions made me realize how fortunate and abundantly blessed I am. While it almost seems horrible to realize that my family and I were spared while others lost so much, it gave us an opportunity to go out into our community to volunteer, pick up supplies for local shelters, and help those who were hit hard by the storm.

Despite the horrible events and aftermath of a disaster such as a hurricane, it has been AMAZING to see people come together and lend a helping hand, financial support, supplies, and prayer....often times for complete strangers. Even more incredible, is that in the midst of a divided nation whether it be in regards to government, religion, or anything else, people were willing to drop everything, forget about their differences and help one another. Sometimes it takes storms (physical and metaphorical) to teach us lessons and pull our focus off of ourselves and instead focus on others and the world around us. Even amidst this devastating destruction, my hope for the American people has truly been restored this week! Yes, there is still much to recover from and our country is still divided, but if the events of Hurricane Harvey have taught me anything it is that people still care for their neighbors and for complete strangers, and above anything there is still HOPE!

I pray that in the aftermath of this storm and in the midst of Houston and other towns recovering and rebuilding, that people will hold onto that hope and that it will become our focus every day!

In regards to this outfit, these pictures were actually taken back in June (I know....why has it taken me this long to share them)! However, this is definitely one of my FAVORITE sheet dresses.....yes, you heard me right, I said sheet dresses because I do in fact have 7 dresses (all my favorites) made out of sheets (see here, here, here, and here). I don't always wear things that are fully, cheerfully colorful but this dress reminds me of a lollipop and I LOVE it! Plus it's ridiculously comfortable and cool and twirly so:) I decided that with color comes color and paired it with a cheerful bouquet of flowers from Trader Joe's (who doesn't love their flowers), heels from old navy, vintage clip on earrings, and this colorful embroidered vintage purse. Plus an pop of pink lipstick and a milkmaid braid (which my hair is long enough to do now) didn't hurt either!

Hello all you lovely readers! It appears time has gotten away from me again as I didn't manage to take outfit pictures yet this week. Life has slowed down a bit and yet all of my plans for posts have not yet happened. I must say I have some exciting ideas for posts coming up, including a very wonderful review! On top of everything, Betty (my camera) wasn't working yesterday and I was freaking out a bit thinking she was broken, however all is well now:) 

Nonetheless, I thought I would bring you all something different today.....a DIY! Now, as much as I would have loved to put together a step by step process for this DIY I am afraid you all will have to simply settle for the final projects. 

For those of you who might know, I am a big Agents of Shield fan. This being said, I am an even bigger Fitzsimmons shipper.......maybe even a little obsessed !!! This season has been quite dramatic for Fitzsimmons and has had me on the edge of my seat a number of times, but I will leave it at that so as not to give to much of Season 3 away. However, as a HUGE fan of Fitzsimmons I thought it only fitting to make a few (I actually have 3) shirts to show my support!

I found a shirt with this saying on pinterest and absolutely fell in love with it! I love that the last names that make up the ship "Fitz" and "Simmons" have the first names in white on one of the letters. 

(I used the website Canva to create the logo.) 

As always you can never go wrong with a statement necklace and a Tshirt!

I have found that the white shirt goes quite well with my washed out denim button up. 

I couldn't very well make a DIY shipper shirt without a picture of my two favorite people:) This is a picture from season 1 and I have always loved how it shows Fitz and Simmons relationship. 

The grey shirt goes very well with my red flannel shirt! This has been my go to combination when I just want something comfy!

FYI.....if you are wondering how I made these shirts (obviously) I used logo maker paper from Hobby Lobby that you print your logo from the computer onto. To make the logo I used googled clipart and then Canva for the text & creations of the cohesive design. 

I will leave this post with a few favorite Fitzsimmons gifs and head off to watch this weeks episode....who knows what to expect!

Happy Monday dear readers! Today I bring you a "Sunday Best" post from none other than yesterday:) When you make a new 1940's Retro dress from Simplicity 1587 you must wear it to church! And if you make a 1940's dress you might as well make a straw tilt hat to complete the outfit. And if you make a hat to go with the new dress you have to take pictures downtown wearing everything. And after you are done taking pictures in your 1940's ensemble maybe you should stop and fill up your car and while you are at it you might as well take the opportunity to go into the gas station dressed like someone who stepped out of WWII as everyone stares at the strange girl who might have come from a time machine! And when it is all said and done, you have already worn the hat into a gas station so you might as well keep the whole ensemble together and wear it as you traipse through the mall standing out like a total old fashioned girl in a swarm of modern shoppers:)

That basically sums up my Sunday happenings! And might I say they were happenings to always remember. It was so much fun going into Forever 21 dressed in a total 1940's ensemble and see people stare at me and tell me that I look like I came from "back then."  Then when I am standing in line at Bath and Body Works a lady asked  me if I was in a production and that was why I was dressed as such:) However, I explain (to her disbelief) that I normally dress this way! Sometimes you have to embrace being your own person and confidently be different than everyone else. Because the truth is, people need to see a little old fashioned every once in awhile:)

This was my first dress that actually looks 100% like a 1940's dress and I am sooooo "in love" with it! I will definitely be making more dresses of this style in the future. However, like I said all 1940's dressed must have hats so I decided to make a small tilt hat from a straw doll hat I picked up from Hobby Lobby. It turned out quite well and I must say I am really loving the look of a small hat with a sun dress.

The sleeves are my favorite part of the dress! This was the first time I made sleeves like this and they honestly make the dress.

Most of you readers know about my sister Taylor (middle girl) but here are my two other sisters (Maryellen & Elizabeth)! Okay, they are not really my sisters but when they are you and your sisters best friends and they live 3 minutes from your house you just say they are your sisters:)
