Fall Style
Fall Style by oldfashionedgirl

It's that time of the year! That time when you start dreaming of cool weather (but still have 100 degree temperatures). That time when you desperately want to wear a cozy sweater, but know you would burn up, but go ahead anyways. That time when you step outside in the early morning and think that you might just be able to smell fall in the air. Oh, what am I even saying.....Its that time of the year where Pumpkin Spice Latte's are back and you make your friends take a picture of your hand holding the cup HERE!!!! Fall is just around the corner and I CANNOT WAIT!!! (I seriously chewed a piece of cinnamon gum this past weekend when I went outside just to make my brain think it was fall....no joke). With that being said however, means that wardrobes will be changing (more on that later this week) and with that comes my lovely Fall Style Wishlist/Must Haves.

I have loved everything that has been coming to stores for this coming season, and actually recently just picked up 3 different pieces for my wardrobe for the fall (which I NEVER do) but the styles were to good to pass up. Thus, if you want to know what I am wishing for this fall or what I am adding to my wardrobe, than keep reading:

  1. Floral Midi Dress: For any of you who are Target fans, did you see this dress in stores when their fall lines hit? I was totally FREAKING out when I found it because the colors are fabulous, I love the length, the style is so 70's meets 2016 and the print looks like a fall palette take on Rifle Paper Co. While I am typically a more classic vintage soul (40's, 50's, and 60's) the 70's really became a huge inspiration for me last fall, so we will see if that continues this season. I ordered the dress over Labor Day weekend when it was on sale (great excuse to spend money right) and can't wait to wear it. I think it will look great with a felt hat and ankle boots.
  2. Wet n Wild Gel Nail Polish: I recently discovered the Wet n Wild gel nail polishes which I am totally in love with especially the colors Crime of Passion & Left Marooned which totally fit into my fall wardrobe colors. We often think that styles only change when the seasons do, but I think changing up our nail color is just as important for incorporating the styles of the coming season.
  3. Mustard Yellow Tights: If you haven't heard, mustard yellow is one of the fall 2016 colors and I couldn't be happier (because it is one of my favorite colors in fashion)! Just another EXTRA excuse to wear my old mustard tights more frequently....plus they totally match the target dress that I got as well as a number of my other sweaters and fall skirts.
  4. Cambridge Satchel: If you have never checked out the Cambridge Satchel company than you are in for a treat because I ADORE every single one of their satchels, bags, and purses and they come in the most lovely selection of colors to choose from! While I absolutely adore this brown satchel and think that it would be the perfect addition to any Fall wardrobe, I still don't have one of their satchels, but maybe one day I will get one (hint, hint, to anyone looking for Birthday or Christmas present ideas.....)
  5. Lace Up Flats: To say I have been wanting these since the beginning of the summer would be an UNDERSTATEMENT! Whenever this style came out this past year I couldn't help loving the ladylike elegance and edge that the lace up (sued) style falts had. I have been on the lookout for a pair (that I loved and could afford) for the past 3 months and finally found this pair (loving the color) at Target. I have actually tried them on every time I visited Target (since they came out in August) and only just purchased them within the last week.......they are totally worth it though because I will wear them all fall long!
  6. Denim Jacket: Funny thing.....I used to have a denim jacket as did my sister but somehow we no longer have them? Truly, I haven't ever been that much of a fan of them, but recently I have been creating all of these outfit combos in my head which all revolve around a denim Jacket (weird right)! Therefore, when I went out to take blog pictures this past weekend I decided that I wanted a denim jacket for the shoot, so I decided to add a denim jacket to my fall wardrobe. Usually I am not that impulsive (like EVER) but it was one of those purchases I don't regret because I know I will get a lot of wear out of it.
  7. Rimmel London Berry Lip Color: Can't say enough about berry colored lipstick for the fall (to be honest its really basically purple). I used to be afraid of wearing crazy colors, but I have taken the plunge and love wearing BOLD lip colors now. In the fall months I love to wear the brown shades and purples. If you haven't ever checked out Rimmel London's products (found at Wallgreens, Target, and CVS) than you totally should because they have the best colors, at the best prices, and with good lasting ability.
  8. Chalkfull of Love Pumpkin Spice Case: You all should know by now that Chalkedfulloflove is one of my FAVORITE brands/small businesses, and Sarah's Casefy Collection is just as great as her mugs and prints. Not to make life any better or anything (wink...wink), but as an avid and obsessed Pumpkin Spice Latte fan I can't help but fangirl over this phone case and say that this is definitely a fall must have!
  9. e.l.f. Bronzer: I have always been a strict blush kind of girl, but as the fall months draw closer I have opted for a more "natural" warm glow type of look. I am always a fan of saving money on drug store makeup, so e.l.f. is my go to. I am totally loving this bronzer from elf and have incorporated it into my makeup looks recently (maybe I should do a video on fall makeup palettes??)
  10. Neck Scarf: Anyone realize the current trend for Neck Scarves, especially this coming fall? I used to think neck scarves were a bit overboard, but now that so many of my favorite bloggers are rocking the look and considering it is actually a trend that is coming back around, I am ALL for it! I have been trying to incorporate the trend more in my wardrobe and so far I am totally loving it!
What are some things on your Fall Must Have/Wish List?
Any of these styles or products ones you like?

Summer Must Haves

Summer Must Haves

As the warm summer weather starts for each of us, it becomes even more difficult to dress fashionably in the heat. In Texas the heat is almost unbearable at times and even when the heat isn't that bad the humidity is the worst! Due to the heat and challenge it brings for us who still want to look fashionable without dying of heat stroke, I thought I would share some of my Summer Must Haves:

  • Denim Jumper Dress: I don't actually have one of these yet, I am in the process of making one and know I will wear it all the time. I love how basic yet versatile denim jumpers can be and they are perfect for summer time. For those of you who focus on creating "capsule wardrobes" this would be a perfect addition!
  • Striped Quarter Sleeve Shirt: I have a black and white striped shirt that I wear all the time. Stripes are great because not only are they classic, but they go with solids and prints. For the most part my quarter sleeve top is fairly cool, but if the day is extra sweltering than I will go for a striped tank top. (perfect for a capsule wardrobe too)
  • Gingham Skirt: You all probably saw my gingham skirt in my last post. I am so IN LOVE with gingham skirts because they are just the BEST! I have been wearing my skirt all the time and its is great for the summer heat as it is flowy and also looks like a picnic blanket :)
  • White Blouse: I have a number of white blouses and often revert to choosing them when I need a blouse that goes with any skirt. Though I sometimes have to wear a tank top under my white blouses, white is great because it goes with everything and it is a very cool color.
  • Fujifilm Instax Polaroid: I have a pink polaroid camera and love using it to snap artsy photos and hang them in my room. Summer is the perfect time to capture memories and using a polaroid is an extra creative and fun choice.
  • Canvas Tote: I have become a huge fan of canvas totes because they are perfect for trips and are super cute, plus you can get them with whatever wording or graphic you want! Throw a book in your bag and you are good to go for the beach.
  • A Good Book: Everyone needs a good book in the summer. I am the girl who goes to the beach simply to read a book......I just finished The Siren by Kiera Cass and it was so perfect for a summer read.
  • Lemon Water: In the summer heat it is important to stay hydrated! I know for myself personally, drinking water is sometimes a battle. However, I am more apt to drink water if it is lemon water as it adds flavor. Plus, lemon water has its own set of benefits!
  • Cute Shades: I am a connoisseur of cute sunglasses! My favorite pair as of late are similar to those in the set, as they are a fun oversized cat eye with a springy floral print.
  • Boater Hat: I am totally in love with boater hats and they are perfect for keeping the sun off of my face. Not only are they extremely classic and go with everything, but they sometimes make you feel like you stepped out of Italy when pairing it with specific ensembles.
  • White Sandals: Anyone who reads my blog knows I LOVE Salt Water Sandals. Unfortunately, I don't have a white pair, but I did just find a pair of white Steve Madden sandals that kind of look like a pair of Salt Water sandals so I was happy. I love white sandals because they go with anything, but also look super summery because of their light color.
Are any of these items on your Summer Must Have's list?
What are your summer go too's?
Have you read any good books this summer?

Galentines Day

Friday, February 12, 2016

Happy almost Valentines Day or what I like to call it "Galentines Day" where I get to celebrate chick flicks, cheesy movies, and hang out with some of my favorite Gals and sisters :) While many people don't like to celebrate valentines day for the many consumer dollars spent on the day, or for the fact that they don't have someone special in their life, I like to think of it as a day (or in this case weekend) where I have the EXTRA excuse to watch wwaayyy to many chick flick movies, pamper myself, and eat a high amount of calories (putting my Nutrition Class knowledge to work)!
While I am unfortunately on duty this weekend for my job at College my sister and BFF are coming up today and staying the weekend and we have a FABULOUS Galentines day planned out complete with everything I stated above. However, I thought I would put together a quick post with some of my favorite Valentines Day worthy pieces from my closet!

Loving you is RED

Blouse: Tatyana (bought it in Boston)
Nail Polish: Revlon Color Stay Gel Envy 620 "Roulette Rush"
Lipstick: Rimmel London Kate 01
Earings: $1 @ Wallmart
Belt: Minnie's Menagerie

This shirt surprisingly has never been featured on the blog, which is a surprise considering it is one of my favorite shirts and is also the only pin up per say clothing item I have. I think it is also my favorite because I bought it when I went to Boston two years ago. However, when it comes to Valentine's day you can't go wrong with red or bows.

Pretty In Pink

Sweater: Thrifted (Talbots )
Perfume: Bath & Body Works "Berry Flirt"
Liptick: Revlon Ultra HD 845"Peony"
Nail Polish: Revlon Color Stay Gel Envy

Nothing says girly, frilly, and romantic like pink...and light pink at that! This sweater has become one of my favorite pieces because I can easily dress it up or down. For this occasion I would perfectly pair it with my darling "Hannah Everly" skirt because why not! Top off this look with nail polish that is seriously the EXACT same shade as this sweater, pink lipstick, and some cheerful berry perfume.

Shipping Shirt

Shirt: DIY
Flannel: Old Navy
Perfume: Bath & Body Works "Japanese Cherry Blossom"
Mug: Anthropologie
Necklace: James Avery

Now, this is what I call the perfect Valentines day look.....who's with me for Ships and OTP's!! Now, I might be a little obsessed with FitzSimmons, but I think that this shirt paired with a red flannel shirt is the perfect lounge wear to cozy up with a good book and cup of coffee:)

Movie Time

Sweat Shirt: Wallmart
Lip Balm: eos Mint
Nail Polish: Revlon Color Stay Gel Envy 020 "All Or Nothing"

This is basically how I will be spending my Valentines Day weekend.....watching movies. My mom got this sweatshirt a few years ago and I love pulling it out around this time of the year for a little sparkle. While I am at it with a comfy look I love to use my eos mint lip balm because it is the best every! Oh....and you can't forget my FAVORITE popcorn which is technically really healthy because it is super low in calories and the sea salt lime flavor is to die for:)

Hearts For The Win

Dress: Thrifted (Forever 21)
Nail Polish: Revlon Color Stay Gel Envy
Heels: Old Navy
Belt: Minnie's Menagerie
Perfume: Bath & Body Works "A Thousand Wishes"
Lipstick: Rimmel London Katie 05

Last but not least is the ensemble I will actually be wearing on Saturday when we go on a Galentines day excursion! This dress is one of my favorites and sooooo perfect for this time of the year with the many colorful hearts. I will pair this dress with a red belt, red nail polish, lipstick, earrings, a sweater if it is chilly, and these oh so comfy clogs from old navy.

With that I think my Galentines day weekend is complete! I  hope all of you have a wonderful and enjoyable weekend relaxing, pampering, and spending time with the ones you love:)

Do you have any Galentines day plans?
Which look best describes you?
Any Favorite movie you will be watching?

Current Obsession

Tuesday, May 12, 2015

Spring is here and in my neck of the woods it looks like summer is fast approaching. However, with rainy days like today it makes me want sunshine, flowers, and color.
Every year there always seem to be those colors that are in fashion for the season and while it is interesting to see what colors make it through I am always one to discover my own colors :) Thus, is why I am currently "obsessed" with crisp cool Lavender and cheery sunshiny yellow! These colors might be my current shades due to the dress I blogged about last week, which had splashes of lavender and yellow, but in general I adore these colors at this time of year.

Lavender Blues

Lavender Blues by oldfashionedgirl

While I will say I want a lavender dress and lavender accessories I will say that lavender anything is delightful. You can find the herb in pots, soap, cleaning spray, candles, oils, pretty much anything and just a quick waft of its delicate aroma makes everything better:) Oh, and can I just maybe buy some lavender lipstick? I don't know if I would even wear it (I might? Maybe in a photoshoot) but it is just so very pretty and unique.

Now, for yellow that is a no brainer for this time of year, with the sunshine, lemonade, and the current fad of Pineapples (which I am kind of a fan of). Seriously, my sister and I went shopping last week and we found pineapple shirts, wallets, sunglasses, and blouses ever where we turned....evidently it is the spring print? Of course we can never go wrong with yellow because it is such a cheery color and we see it every day thanks to the sun! Oh, and let us not forget about those cool glasses of tart lemonade that trickle down our parched throats in the summer heat.
Lemon Time

Wheather it is daisy centers, sunflowers, lemons, pineapples, etc. yellow is a spring/summer favorite of mine! I have always been a fan of the "Mustard Yellow" by a cheery sunny yellow is just what I need to brighten my day....in fact I just purchased a darling yellow purse that I will be sharing later this week (it is so perfect)!

Well, that is all for today, but I hope these colors cheered you up and got you excited for all the beauty of the season!

What are some of your favorite spring/summer colors?

Have you noticed the pineapple fad?

Do you like lavender and yellow?

Fall Fashion

Saturday, October 4, 2014

It has definitely been awhile since I have posted, and I must apologize in advance for this post being minutely short, but life has been an utter whirlwind. I am officially a college student now, and though I have been taking college classes for three years, I can now feel the work piling on! However, fall is here and it is my favorite time of the year as for the season and the fashion. To me fall is very magical (although not quite as magical as Christmas). My favorite part about fall is waking up on the first day, and never being disappointed with the gorgeous day. Fall has a simply calming scent that flows in the air, and makes you take a deep breath, drinking it all in. The sun always seems to be shinning so warm and bright upon the leaves that are fading into golden hues, and everything rustles in the wind.
Nevertheless, fall is a time for sweaters, and tea (cuddling up with a good book). Jackets, and hats. And oh, lets not forget about the endless days of wearing colorful tights and drinking in the crisp aroma of the season. I would post some pictures of my personal fall ensembles, but I have been swamped, so you will have to make do with my polyvore set, though I think if you took a peak in my closet you would find practically every piece above. My daily fall wardrobe consists of a sweater, plaid skirt, a jacket (if it is chilly), oxfords or boots with tights, a simple broach and a perfect hat!
HAPPY FALL EVERYONE!!!!
