Hipster Coffee Spots

Thursday, May 19, 2016

Last summer our town got the cutest and most fabulously hipster coffee shop called Jane and John Dough's and it has quickly become the "spot" that all the homeschoolers, hipsters, and college students in our area go to hang out, do Bible studies, or work on homework. Up until recently the only coffee place we had was a Starbucks, but there is just something special about those "one of a kind" coffee shops/bakeries that are tucked in the corner of town and give an ambience like no other coffee shop can give.

Every time I visit the coffee shop I can never get over the little details that make it one of my favorite places! Whether it be the hand written menu, stamped coffee cups, eclectic furniture or flowers. Though I was only able to capture the outside feel of the place the other day I will have to capture the interior next time because it is soooooo perfect!

Ever since my first visit to Jane and John Dough's it quickly became my go to when my friends and I wanted a place to hang out, catch up, or meet for a Bible study. Thus, now that all of our spring semesters are finished yesterday seemed like a perfect day to visit our favorite spot and catch up on all that has happened over our semesters. Over Lattes and baked goods we laughed and listened to each others stories and soaked in the time we had to spend together.

It is often hard when you reach college age and everyone goes in different directions. Sometimes you can loose touch with everyone, but thankfully I am blessed with a group of friends that still manage to stay in touch here and there in the midst of our busy lives; and even when we go five months without seeing each other we still manage to pick up where we left off which is such a blessing.

I must admit that I am becoming one of those blogger/photographer enthusiasts that totes her camera everywhere she goes and is constantly snapping pictures (even if that means standing on your chair for ten minutes). While I might look like a complete nut and my friends might get tired of me forcing them to smile, be normal as I take candid shots, or even make them take pictures of me, the more chances I get to take pictures the more comfortable I will become with using my camera in a variety of settings and therefore the better I will become at increasing my photography skills. I think that is one thing I am looking forward to this summer, in doing more photography!

Do you have a unique coffee shop in your town?
Are you able to stay in contact with any of your college friends/friends who live elsewhere?
Are you someone who carries their camera around with them?

//Casual & Comfy// Fight The New Drug

Saturday, May 7, 2016

Jeans: Thrifted (Levi's)
Flannel: Old Navy
Shoes: Converse

Happy Saturday afternoon! I am at it again with a new Casual & Comfy post featuring this super BOLD shirt from Fight The New Drug. I have to be honest in saying that the message of this shirt is one of the boldest things I have worn, but the message of the movement is necessary! If you have never heard of this organization they work to raise awareness about the harmful affects of pornography that bombard our society. Rather than simply looking at the issue from a social, religious, or political standpoint their focus is presenting porn as a harmful public health issue.

In a world whose morals are daily crumbling and where healthy relationships and love are sacrificed for physical relationships and desires the issue of pornography is a daily battle. The affects of pornography not only ruin relationships, lifestyles, and Love but it significantly affects the Brain....there is an entire science behind it and that is what Fight The New Drug is all about! Not only does pornography lead to issues in ones own life and health but it is often directly linked to sex trafficking and exploitation (which is a topic I am passionate about). Therefore the people behind Fight The New Drug travel around the country repping the movement and sharing the science behind pornographys harmful affects.

To learn more about Fight The New Drug and the harmful affects of porn visit there site HERE.

This post was not sponsored by Fight The New Drug. All views are my own and I received no reimbursement.

Have you ever heard about Fight The New Drug movement?
Do you think this is a health issue in our society?

In the midst of the crazy everyday life it is sometimes hard to keep your head up and stay smiling and happy. Whether it is looming deadlines, papers, projects, busy days, stressful happenings, or just the rollercoaster of life in general, choosing to be joyful in the midst of the crazy is HARD! I think being a college student I struggle with this every week, but I have also learned to find joy in the little things and keep smiling no matter how stressed or anxious I might feel! With the end of the semester fast approaching I find myself over thinking everything that needs to be done as I see deadlines coming up and finals drawing near, but I also see summer break that is only a few weeks away and that helps to keep me going.

Some days I wake up and immediately start thinking of the things that need to be done.....well I take that back, every day is like that! Some days when my mind wanders to the vast to do list I am perfectly fine knowing I have time to get things done and the things on my list are not to bad, yet other days I immediately feel a dark grey cloud hover above my head as I think about EVERYTHING that is still not crossed off my list! Therefore, what helps me when life starts to get grey? Glad you asked:) First off I wouldn't get anywhere during my day if I didn't start it off with Coffee and Jesus! That steaming hot cup of cream, sugar, and liquid gold gets my mind working and time spend in the work helps me start thinking positive thoughts and focus on my creator rather than the mundanes of life. Furthermore, I can't help but smile when I walk outside and my face is kissed by a warm beam of sunshine....it is like a cheery kiss from God! Seeing the sun always makes me smile and when I hear the choruses of the birds around me I smile even more. I often find myself, as I walk to class, smiling at the little things around me like squirrels running across my path, leaves rustling in the wind, chickens and their chicks scavenging in the grass (yes, we have chickens on campus....they seriously crossed the street from the park to get to the other side) or when I see a little dandelion in the grass sharing its wishful seeds with passersby....when I take time to notice the beauty around me it takes my thoughts back to the Creator of it all and fills me with a since of peace and joy which I can't help but engulf!

As for my ensemble, variations of this look have been my Friday go to this semester. I know that this look is something you don't see me sporting much on the blog and is not classic or vintage what so ever, but if I had to choose a style apart from Vintage fashions this style is my favorite. Therefore, I will be throwing in a few "Casual & Comfy" posts here and there with some of my modern/hipster looks (really just my weekend style). Anyways, I can't get over this shirt because it is sooooooo FABULOUS (thanks to my bestie for giving it to me for my birthday last year)! I honestly wear it nearly every Friday, but if you think about it, Friday's call for coffee and comfort. On the topic of these shorts, I made these from a pair of thrifted jeans and can't get enough of them! I love that they are light wash, high waisted, and a modest length for my long legs:)

I hope all of you have a great rest of the week:)

Are you nearing the end of the semester?
What helps you find joy?
What are your comfy go to styles/pieces?

Perfectly Framed : Firmoo Review

Friday, March 25, 2016

Glasses: c/o Firmoo
Shirt: Target
Sweater: Walmart
Jeans: Thrifted (Levi)

If you have been a follower of my blog for awhile than you probably know I am the BIGGEST fan of glasses! I do not actually need glasses or have a perscription but I LOVE fake glasses, so when Firmoo contacted me and asked if I wanted to do a review on a pair of their glasses I was thrilled and immidiately said YES!

I can't get over how perfect these glasses are! I have been wanting a pair of tortoise glasses with a round frame and right when I saw this style I knew they were the ones I wanted to order. Of course I had to try them out as soon as I received them in the mail and decided to wear them to class today. One of my favorite things about Firmoo glasses (especially since mine  are not perscription) is that they are very high quality.....exactly like you would find at an actual glasses store or the eye doctor. Unlike most of my other fake glasses these fit perfectly to my face, are comfortable, and are not crooked which is a bonus! I also love that the lense is super clear so it almost feels like I am not even wearing glasses. Besides the glasses themselves they came with the cutest case ever which has a printing of a map on it and makes me want to go traveling around the country, and of course these glasses would be the perfect accessory to those excursions.

Of course if this style of glasses isn't for you, Firmoo has a number of other styles including a completely adorable pair of cat eye glasses which I almost got :) They also have sunglasses which is another weakness of mine......so go check them out if you are in need of glasses or a nice pair of shades.

It was so great working with Firmoo to put together this review. They were in contact the whole time and always asked if there was something they could do or if I was satisfied with my order. I will say though the only down side was that it took over two weeks for me to get my glasses, but sometimes that is the case, so just make sure to order a decent way out.

Also.....even more exciting and so wonderful of Firmoo to do is to offer you all a voucher for a free pair of glasses!! Therefore, if you are a first time customer of Firmoo you can use the voucher code "minnieblog2" for any of THESE GLASSES and at the checkout get your glasses for free (shipping is not included). The voucher code is only available for the first 10 people who use it for their order so if you are interested in trying out their glasses you better act quickly because it expires April 24th :)

All in all I am thoroughly thrilled with my glasses from Firmoo and will probably be ordering another pair sometime in the future. because just like you can never have enough sunglasses, I don't think I could ever have to many glasses!

Have a wonderful Easter Weekend!!

What you you think of the glasses?
Have you ever heard of Firmoo?
Do you think you will give them a try with the voucher?
