Part 1: Q&A #2

Tuesday, March 15, 2016

Cue the confetti, throw the glitter, find a cozy place to sit, grab yourself a cup of coffee or brew a pot of tea and settle in for Part 1 of my second Q&A video.

I told you it was just around the corner and here it is! After much blood, sweat, and tears (not really....that is a bit of an exaggeration) it is finally edited and all put together! I had some trouble with my video editor at first, and video file compatibility, and other such headache nonsense but all is well and good now.
Therefore, it is time to get started!

I loved reading all the questions you all left for me and I loved answering them even more. Take a look down below to watch the video.....Enjoy:)

//Bramblewood Thrifted// Day 4: In The Mood for 1940's

Monday, March 14, 2016

Dress: Thrifted (Liz Claiborne)
Shirt: Thrifted (Express)
Belt: Vintage
Shoes: Thrifted (Target)
Flower Pin: Gift

Welcome to the bonus day for Bramblewood Thrifted blog event. Even though creating this post for today meant using my entire morning to get ready and venture out on campus amongst a sea of people passing by as I tried to snap pictures and act "normal" I couldn't pass up the opportunity for the bonus Vintage day! It has been awhile since I posted a 1940's look (to long actually) and I have missed this decade dearly. The 1940's has always held a special place in my heart as the styles to me are always impeccable and red lipstick is my FAVE:)

I picked up this dress earlier this semester at Goodwill and absolutely fell in love with it. The cut and tailoring of the dress are utter perfection and yield itself to looking like a 1940's dress even though it is Liz Claiborne (which I love). I thought it would be nice to layer this dress over a while collared shirt and boy will I be doing a lot more layering with this shirt because it totally gives the dress a different look. As per the 1940's many women liked to wear flowers pinned to their dresses as a way of making the dress look new and different even if it was old (due to the war). Thus, I thought this darling lace flower pin that I received as a birthday gift from a dear friend would be the perfect touch! I have never worn a flower pin on a dress before but like the layering of the collared shirt, this trick might have to be used more often as well.

Nearly everything for this ensemble was thrifted except for the belt which is vintage and the pin which was a gift. The shoes are a pair of nude pumps I picked up at a thrift store last summer and they are the perfect pair of shoes for the spring when you need a pair of shoes to match everything! Oh.....and might I add that my new hair cut is quickly becoming a fave because of the look I get when it is curled! I always tried to get that perfect 1940's / 1950's short bob curl and now I know that short hair helps tremendously!

All in all, most of my vintage inspired pieces in my wardrobe are thrifted. Some pieces I find at thrift stores are actual vintage pieces but other pieces are more modern but give a vintage feel and look which I absolutely LOVE!

I hope you all enjoyed the last four days of posts!! I know I greatly enjoyed posting outfits every day and wish my blog could work more like this so fingers crossed somewhere in the near future this will be possible. Don't forget to visit Bramblewood Fashion for the last day of the event!

Have you ever layered a collared blouse?
Have you ever tried pairing a flower pin with a dress?

//Bramblewood Thrifted// Day 3: Colors of Spring

Sunday, March 13, 2016

Dress: Thrifted (Brooks Brothers)
Sweater: Thrifted (The Limited)
Shoes: Payless (Old)
Earrings: Target
Welcome to day #3 of the Bramblewood Thrifted blog event! I hope that you all are basking in the glory and beauty of God's majestic creation today as the birds sing his praises and the sun warms the earth.

Since both of the ensembles I have done so far with this event have been on a more neutral and basic side I thought I would liven things up a bit with some cheery spring colors (but really I just grabbed this out of my closet in a hurry). As I mentioned in my previous post, I was able to do a bit of thrifting over spring break...yippie....and as a result of that this dress was one of my finds!

I was very excited when I found this dress on the rack but even more excited that it actually fit me. I seem to always go for button up/collared shirts and dresses in the spring and summer, therefore this dress was perfect. I loved how simple it was (apparently I am on a simplicity kick) but it was also super classic. Because of the cut and color I feel like I can do a lot with this dress as well as make it versatile for multiple decades. This sweater on the other hand is a thrifted piece and is my go to in the spring because apparently the color seems to go with nearly every one of my dresses (which is odd since the color is a weird hue). I like to find short sleeve sweaters to wear with my spring dresses because there are a lot of days that I just don't feel comfortable wearing a dress without sleeves.

All in all this look is pretty basic. I didn't even wear a necklace with it, only a pair of pearl earrings. However, I look forwards to playing with more combos when it comes to this dress of the spring and summer. Oh......and if you are wondering I did get my hair cut! It is much....much shorter than it was before (it might actually be the shortest I have ever had it) but so far it am liking how easy it is:)

That is all for now lovely readers! Tomorrow (Monday) is a bonus day for the blog event and with focus on an thrifted outfit that is vintage or vintage inspired so here's to hoping I manage to get some pictures taken Monday morning.

//Bramblewood Thrifted// Day 2: Book Bags & Blues

Saturday, March 12, 2016

Shirt: Thrifted (Old Navy)
Skirt: Thrifted (Cold Water Creek)
Sweater: Thrifted
Belt: Sister's
Shoes: Salt Water Sandals
Bag: Hobby Lobby

Happy Saturday Lovely readers and welcome to Day #2 of the Bramblewood Thrifted blog event! This ensemble was honestly quite inspired by this new book bag I picked up at Hobby Lobby. I have been wanting a cute canvas bag for books and other such things and this "Lets Go On An Adventure" bag is just what I needed. Thus, this ensemble was inspired by simplicity and classic comfort and would be a perfect look to wear to a market day. Oddly enough, the day over spring break that I wore this ensemble was actually one of my thrifting days, so I went thrifting in a thrifted look :)

I picked this skirt up a while ago but I absolutely LOVE it and seem to wear it all the time, especially when I am having a fashion crisis moment because this skirt can go with nearly anything. I thought that since it was navy and white pin stripes it would go great with my denim button up and a cropped cream cardigan. Of course, as it is now spring, I couldn't help but pull out me Salt Water sandals and pair them with a matching tan belt. All in all this look is one of utter comfort mixed with a simple, classic look.

I can't leave this post however with talking about my favorite thing about thrifting.....BOOKS!!! I used to just thrift for clothes but now every time I go into a thrift store I always seem to leave with a book, or two, or three, or four :) Seriously, my library is growing quite rapidly thanks to people who get rid of fabulous books and I get to buy them for dirt cheep at the thrift store. Most often the books I pick up are books I had already wanted to get and just happened to find at the thrift store, so double bonus there! Other times the books I get are ones that sound good.

Until tomorrows post!

What is your favorite thing to thrift?
Have you ever thrifted books?
Do you have a canvas book bag?

Purse: Thrifted

Day #1 for Ashley's blog event "Bramblewood Thrifted"
If any of you follow Ashley over at her fabulous blog Bramblewood Fashion you totally should. However, on the note of Ashley's blog, she is hosting a blog event this weekend March 11- 13 th focusing on ensembles that are for the most part thrifted. I was super excited to be able to participate in her blog event this time and as an AVID thrifter even more excited to share ensembles with some of my favorite thrifted pieces. Therefore, this basic look is first up for the blog event!

I found this old navy button up over a year ago, and while I don't wear it near as often as I would like I pulled it out the other day because it is just such a perfect basic piece. I love how you can roll up the sleeves and give the shirt a different look. On to this skirt which I absolutely ADORE! Back at the beginning of this year I was inspired by the 70's and I found this perfect button front skirt at Goodwill. Unfortunately as is the case with most skirts I had to take the skirt in at the waist just a bit (as can be seen in the picture above) but other than that it has become a favorite basic skirt because it is a solid color and goes with nearly everything in my closet. As for this purse, it has become my go to this past winter into the spring. I am a total sucker for brown/tan purses and this woven leather purse was just what I wanted......plus it has lots of room inside for all of my junk :) While this look is not really one that I wear a lot, simply because it is so simple, plain, and classic there are days that this is exactly what I need and want to wear.

I hope you will tune in the next three/four days for the blog event and make sure to go check out Bramblewood Fashion to check out all of the other bloggers who are participating in the event!

Do you ever have basic days?
What are your favorite basic pieces?

New Look, New Lense

Saturday, March 5, 2016

Well......if you are reading this new post than you have probably noticed that Minnie Muse looks a bit different! I have been wanting to change things up for awhile on the blog and I finally found something a look that I really liked (with a few tweaks). This look is much different than my old look, but I wanted to go with something more tailored, clean and classic. At first I was going to design the blog myself but I honestly don't have time to learn the basics of coding that I would need so when I found this template for sale on Etsy I was ecstatic. Therefore, welcome to the new Minnie Muse!
Besides the new blog look, I also finally got my new 50mm1.8 Canon camera lense!!! YAY!! Thus, I had to play around with it when I got home on Friday and boy does it make a difference when it comes to pictures and I can't wait to play around with it more this next week.

That is all for now lovely readers!

Spring Break 2016

Thursday, March 3, 2016

Anyone else excited for spring break? I am so excited to have a week off of school....one more day! While I have a week off of school I will still be working on projects over the break, picking up three work days at the local tea room, and completing a number of other things. I also can't wait to spend time with my friends and family, though they all unfortunately do not have spring break until the week after me...bummer! However, apart from those things there are a number of things "To Do" over spring break that pertain to the blog and I am EXTRA excited for those.

1) Blog makeover time!! Yes, you heard me right, over spring break Minnie Muse will be getting a crisp new makeover and I am over the moon about it!

2) SUPER...SUPER....EXCITED because when I get home on Friday my new 50mm1.8 Cannon camera lense will be waiting for me. Thus, getting the new lense will mean playing around with it over the break.

3) Since I have a new lense there will be a number of pictures being taken over the break as well as outfit shoots, getting ready to participate in #BramblewoodThrifted blog event. Therefore the weekend of the 11-14th there will be a post every day!!

4) Over the break (this coming Sunday actually) I have the pleasure of doing a photo shoot with a new up and coming young photographer and I can't wait to collaborate with her as well as get some fabulous pictures for the blog:)

5) I am hoping to visit the art museum over the break with two of my good friends so here's to hoping I manage to take some fun pictures there for the blog!

6) Last but not least, and the most anticipated for me and you lovely readers is my Q&A which will be getting filmed next Saturday and should hopefully be up a few days after that....fingers crossed. If you haven't gotten to comment with any questions you have for me to answer hurry and visit the post HERE to leave me your questions.

What are your plans for spring break?

//New Domain//

Tuesday, March 1, 2016

Pic copyright Minnie Muse
Quick announcement for you all! Ever since I created this blog over a year ago I have been using the original blogger domain name: www.1minnimuse.blogspot.com. However, I have been realizing that it would be nice to have an actual domain name, especially in regards to growing my blog in the future.
 Therefore, I finally took the plunge and bought a real domain name so now my blog can be found under: www.minniemuseblog.com
Changing my domain name is just one small step in growing my blog, and I know that with my crazy schedule it will be awhile before I can dedicate the time needed to reach my blogging goals and dreams, but for now having an actual domain name is a good step and an exciting one!!

Until next time lovely readers!!!
