Hello all you lovelies! The title of this post seemed fitting for today as the world is quite dark and dreary in my neck of the woods, however this post promises to add a ray of sunshine to the otherwise cloudy day:)

It has been awhile since I did a "Sunday Best" post and this ensemble is a perfect way to share with you all what I donned to church yesterday. I must say that as it is not completely spring (thought it already feels like it is almost summer here) this ensemble was inspired by the fact that to me it screams "SPRING!" in a subtle yet classic way. Furthermore, I am finally able to share my FABULOUS Hannah Everly skirt on the blog and boy is it utter perfection:) I actually won this skirt through an Instagram giveaway that Hannah did back in November (I think) and was over the moon when I found out that I had won her signature Polka Dot skirt from her winter collection. Let me just gush over how fabulously perfect this skirt is (you can get it HERE)......

#1- because it is black and white polka dot (who doesn't LOVE Polka Dots!!)

#2- because it has a bow (bows make everything fabulous)

#3- because it is Hannah Everly (who is so incredible and inspiring)

#4- because it is a TOTAL classic and NEVER GOING OUT OF STYLE

#5- It has pockets!! and

#6- because it can be worn in and out of season with nearly anything.

Okay, I think that is enough gushing for now, but seriously, if you have never heard of Hannah Everly skirts you have to go check them out over on Hannah's Etsy shop HERE! Also, for those of you who are on Instagram, you have to go visit Hannah's account and give her a follow @hannaheverly. Her Instagram feed is the cutest and has the most perfect aesthetic as well as the best captions in the history of ever:) Alright, you get the point that you need a Hannah Everly skirt and that you should TOTALLY go follow her on Instagram......mission accomplished!

Back to yesterdays ensemble we go!

As I said above, I wore this to church yesterday and boy was my Hannah Everly skirt a major hit :) As is typically the case with me, whenever I wear something cute to church most of my moms friends ask if I made what I am wearing, however yesterday that was not the case, which was actually perfect because then I got to tell them all about Hannah's incredible business and fabulous skirts.

However, when wearing a fabulous skirt such as this one and such a cheerful yellow sweater, one cannot simply go straight home after church.....no......one must go to the store and buy discounted tulips and then proceed to persuade your sister in taking pictures of you for a blog post:) I have decided that whenever I have a few extra dollars in my walled that I will be buying flowers from now on. Flowers just make a room feel like a home, add a touch of elegance and class, add a bit of the outdoors, smell nice (most of the time), look pretty, and can also pose as a prop for photos. All this being said flowers are a must have!

Well how about an Alliteration title to start things out! So glad to be blogging once again, but I must warn you that this post is going to be quite short (thus enjoy the pictures while you can).

However, for a little introduction to the post this was the ensemble I wore to church this Sunday (yesterday). I had made this dress back at the beginning of July but haven't gotten around to blogging about it until now (typical). Can I just say I am so in LOVE with this dress! I created it from two patterns, a 1940's reproduction blouse pattern and a modern dress pattern. The results were exactly what I was looking for in a 1940's house/day dress. Plus, the simple cotton fabric in a light shade of blue with dainty pink flower buttons made it all the better :)

I stole this parasol from my sister! She picked two of them up at a garage sale years ago and today was the perfect day to use it for pictures. There is just something a little extra about throwing in a parasol or umbrella into photos.....I don't know?

However, while we are on the topic of photos I have realized that I need to become more familiar with my camera and its multiple settings! I have a Cannon EOS Rebel T3 (which is super nice), but until I become more versed in using the settings to my advantage I am going to continually be slightly disappointed with the shots I take. I am just a little obsessed right now with those pictures that have such a magically blurry background (no matter the background setting) and that look absolutely FABULOUS! Then of course when I try to take pictures like those it never quite works like I want it accept in head shots (like the one below).

I suppose I need to kidnap a friend one day and force them to be my model for an hour while I play with my camera more? Or I could watch a few videos online.....or read a few books????? Whatever the case, that is my current dilemma that I hope to soon work through (if you have any tips please pass them on...hehe).

These were the two patterns I used to create the dress. Left pattern was for the skirt and Right pattern's top right blouse was used for the bodice.

Well I suppose that is all I have time to right. However, I have a number of exciting posts planned (if they go according to plan) that I can't wait to get started.

Happy Monday dear readers! Today I bring you a "Sunday Best" post from none other than yesterday:) When you make a new 1940's Retro dress from Simplicity 1587 you must wear it to church! And if you make a 1940's dress you might as well make a straw tilt hat to complete the outfit. And if you make a hat to go with the new dress you have to take pictures downtown wearing everything. And after you are done taking pictures in your 1940's ensemble maybe you should stop and fill up your car and while you are at it you might as well take the opportunity to go into the gas station dressed like someone who stepped out of WWII as everyone stares at the strange girl who might have come from a time machine! And when it is all said and done, you have already worn the hat into a gas station so you might as well keep the whole ensemble together and wear it as you traipse through the mall standing out like a total old fashioned girl in a swarm of modern shoppers:)

That basically sums up my Sunday happenings! And might I say they were happenings to always remember. It was so much fun going into Forever 21 dressed in a total 1940's ensemble and see people stare at me and tell me that I look like I came from "back then." Then when I am standing in line at Bath and Body Works a lady asked me if I was in a production and that was why I was dressed as such:) However, I explain (to her disbelief) that I normally dress this way! Sometimes you have to embrace being your own person and confidently be different than everyone else. Because the truth is, people need to see a little old fashioned every once in awhile:)

This was my first dress that actually looks 100% like a 1940's dress and I am sooooo "in love" with it! I will definitely be making more dresses of this style in the future. However, like I said all 1940's dressed must have hats so I decided to make a small tilt hat from a straw doll hat I picked up from Hobby Lobby. It turned out quite well and I must say I am really loving the look of a small hat with a sun dress.

I love the bow on the front of the dress!!!

The sleeves are my favorite part of the dress! This was the first time I made sleeves like this and they honestly make the dress.

Most of you readers know about my sister Taylor (middle girl) but here are my two other sisters (Maryellen & Elizabeth)! Okay, they are not really my sisters but when they are you and your sisters best friends and they live 3 minutes from your house you just say they are your sisters:)

Hello lovely readers! I hope you are enjoying your spring so far! I am thoroughly enjoying my break :)

Evidently this post is a bit late today. Yesterday was a crazy, busy, and long day as was this morning so posting at the usual time didn't happen, however, I have a break and can now share this post with you all.

On Tuesday I talked a little about my current obsession with bright bold colors (particularly lavender and yellow) and while this particular ensemble does not have all those colors it is a perfect picture of spring and the fun and creative freedom of dressing up:)

I also mentioned on Tuesday that I had recently purchased a yellow purse for spring and here it is. Isn't it just darling!!! I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it especially since it was on sale (bonus). Of course for someone who is used to carrying around a purse that hold as much as Mary Poppins carpet bag this cute purse is a tad bit on the small side. I definitely have to say that finding a fun and bright purse is the perfect accessory to pair with any spring look...it is kind of a spring staple!

As you can see, I was feeling a bit on the print side with this ensemble I wore this past Sunday on Mother's Day. However, this skirt is just so magical that it goes with most prints I have in my closet as I frequently pair it with stripes, checkers, and polka dots as you see here. I was also very much in a 50's mood so throwing a thick white belt on with this blouse and skirt was perfect. This was definitely one of those ensembles I could have worn all day because it was so fun.

Necklace: Walmart $5

Statement necklaces are another must have for spring and my new favorite accessory with everything I wear! They are definitely in for those who dress more modern and preppy but you can't go wrong if you pair one with a vintage ensemble because it adds a bold POP and is also super fun. They of course come in every style and color so you can always find a fun statement necklace to pair with your spring fashions:)
