Beyond The Beach

Friday, July 13, 2018

Swimsuit: Target | Skirt: Thrifted | Shoes: Modcloth (Saltwater Sandals) |
Sunglasses: c/o Sunglass Warehouse | Bag: Thrifted (Vintage) | Hat: Forever21

I've always loved the beach! Whether it is the feeling of sand between my toes, the sound of waves crashing along the shorelines, collecting seashells, people watching, cooling down in the salty water, or simply camped out in a chair reading a book, it's always been one of my favorite parts about summer! With my love for the beach comes my love for "beach style" which often means simple looks inspired by summer, heat, and the ocean.
I have always loved planning my beach looks around the location, but even more often planning them around my swimsuit. With the beach being a huge part of my summers every year I have loved the challenge of creating outfits that incorporate my swimsuit as part of the entire look. Some might simply say that it is just a cover up look, but I always like the idea that I could take what I wear beyond the beach (like this post last summer)
A week ago we took a family trip to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach Alabama. Before we left I was at Target with my sister as we were both shopping for one more swimsuit to take on our trip. I searched for a good while trying to find a one piece (because all I have is two piece suits) that fit my style and modesty standards. After a good ten minutes I found this adorable green and white striped vintage inspired suit (that just so happened to be the LAST one in the store).
I have usually always preferred two piece swimsuits over one piece but this year I have really been liking one piece styles. I loved everything about this suit, especially the color and twist/ruching details in the front and knew it would be a fun & cute suit for the beach (plus it matches the beach) and would also look adorable with a linen skirt I happened to have.
It's amazing how all you have to do to utilize a swimsuit as a top is add a classy skirt (like this linen side button skirt), add a few accessories and you have a fun and simple beachy look! I added my Saltwater sandals, a fun vintage straw bag I thrifted and my go to boater hat.
I love how the look turned out! To be honest it kind of reminds me of Anne of Green Gables, or something fitting for the coasts of Prince Edward Island:)

The Value of Time

Monday, June 11, 2018

Shirt: Thrifted (Ralph Lauren) | Pants: H&M | Shoes: Thrifted | Bag: Target | Earrings: Five Below | Scarf: Thrifted (Vintage) | Watch: c/o JORD

I don't know about you, but I feel as though at the turn of each new year time goes by faster and faster! As much as I think certain weeks or months will inch by, they always end up flying by faster than I think and before I know it a month, and then two months, and then a year are up.
When I think about time and how fast it goes, I always wonder how much I miss. I think so often, we are focused on getting as much done as we can in the time we have, but what if our focus on fitting so much in causes us to miss things? What if we are so focused on getting things done that we miss what time has to offer?
When the topic of time comes up it always gets me to thinking? It makes me think about how many hours I have in a day and how much I need to get done, but it also makes me think about wasted time. What if those moments we take to relax or those times we get sidetracked are moments we could have dedicated to something important?
I guess when it comes to time there are always so many questions, but also so many thoughts on making the most of every moment. Like when you think you are to busy to get everything done, but in the long run if it is important to you you will make time! That is a resolution of mine as of late, to make time for what is important to me and to stop making excuses!

As for this look, it is a little different than my usual style, but something I have been loving lately! I found these paper bag waist pants at H&M a couple of months ago and fell in love with them when I tried them on. They reminded me of something an artist would wear, and according to the 6th grader I had in class one day that's what he thought too:) Since the pants are so unique I usually pair them with a striped top, for this look I chose to pair them with a striped tank top. Since the look is very "business" like I paired it with flat loafers and my business bag.
To finish off the look I decided to wear my JORD wood watch for an extra unique flair. I have always loved the style of JORD watches because there are not many like it. I love that they are wood and bring in a natural style to a look while adding in a slightly modern flair.

Top: Faded Glory | Culottes: Thrifted | Belt: Thrifted | Shoes: Belle's | Pin: Forever21 | Purse: Charming Charlies | Beret: c/o Gamiss

I've always said that my favorite color is a light blush pink, however as the years have gone by I have discovered that there is one color I seem to gravitate towards the most.....YELLOW. Maybe it's the warm cheery qualities the color makes me feel, but somehow warm yellows and mustards are two colors I always grab when shopping, run to as soon as I see them, or always end up reaching for when I am putting together a look. I would almost go so far as to say that yellow just might be my signature color (or quickly becoming one)?
I remember the first time I realized how much I loved yellow, I was attending a ball one spring and wore a dress that reminded me of Belle's gown from beauty and the beast. From that moment on I came to love wearing the color yellow. Throughout the years I have collected pieces here and there in the cheery hue and even have a section of spring "vintage sheet" dresses dedicated to the color yellow.
This look especially pulls in the golden hues with this bright yellow beret and yellow striped top. Every time I reach for these Culottes I always grab a striped shirt to pair with it, like in this post. Something about them screams FRENCH and I always give into the inspiration, especially considering this look also reminded me of the story of "Madeline"and her yellow hats and uniforms.  Thus, keeping with the french theme the beret was a definite must as was my blue macaroon pin:) I wanted the look to be super classy so these three strap seude heels were the perfect thing to bring the look together. Really you can't go wrong with black, stripes, and a beret....they are classics!

What is your signature color?

Night At The Museum

Friday, August 18, 2017

Jumpsuit: Ross
Sweater: Thrifted
Purse: Thrifed (H&M)
Shoes: Target
**Pictures by my brother and I**

Okay, so maybe we actually visited the museum last Sunday afternoon (and not at night) but I couldn't help getting caught up in the quintessential feeling that walking into a museum gives you! On our way up the stairs to visit a specialty exhibit on Gladiators, my brother turned to me and said "being here always reminds me of Night At the Museum" and I couldn't help looking around and thinking that everything was going to come to life!

It has been YEARS since we visited the museum, and considering my brother and I really like museums (and both wanted to go) we made a list of all the ones we wanted to visit before he left for college on Wednesday. Needless to say we have visited NASA and managed to visit both the Museum of Natural Science and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston last Sunday (talk about being exhausted afterwards).

I was feeling in the mood to wear something comfortable, so I decided to wear this fun two toned striped and navy jumpsuit. This jumpsuit is seriously the most comfortable thing ever and the color and stripes make it impeccably classy. With that, I decided to throw a grey cardigan on since museums are always freezing, and paired the whole look with lace up sued flats and one of my brown satchel purses.

Are you a fan of museums?
What is you favorite part about visiting them?
