I've always considered myself to be an "Old Soul", in fact my old Instagram handle used to be "Oldfashionedgirl". I think my association with being an old soul has often come from my love for vintage and old fashioned clothing styles. However, as time has gone by I have realized that I am an "old soul" for more reasons than just my clothes.
While my clothes and style are a huge part of my "old soul" spirit they also speak to who I am as a person (deep in my core). For me, my old fashioned and vintage styles illustrate how I see the world, life, etc. If you peeled way the layers you would see that my views and standards for life are quite old fashioned......sometimes I think my views would fit better in the 1950's than in our modern 21st century. I am known as the "mom" of my friends and you can often find me elaborating as the voice of reason and logic in many situations or raising eyebrows at peoples music choices, conversations, or clothes.
I often wonder if my style bloomed from my old fashioned views and standards of life? However, I think that my love for vintage clothes and my unique style comes from the fact that I truly am an "old soul." I resonate more with a 60 year old lady wearing muumuu's and picking flowers rather than a 22 year old college grad. Antique stores are comforting to me, swing music makes me feel as though I am living in the 40's and 50's and vintage clothes are the icing on the cake, transporting me back in time and backing up my "old soul" spirit.
Call it "old lady" syndrome, "crazy cat lady" side effects, but at the end of the day I am simply an "old soul" living in a modern world.

Well dear readers, It has been a little to long for my taste since I have been able to write a real post, so here is a little something "different" for you today. I have decided to start a series of posts titled "Life as I Live It," and will focus on a variety of topics.

I thought I would take the time and write something other than an outfit post :) These pictures are back from my graduation shoot but I guess I chose to share them today because they show the side of me that likes to be different. Now, that might sound strange and you are probably be wondering "How on earth do these pictures show how you are different?" Well, lets just say it has to do with this dress...partially at least....:)

Dress: Vintage (A Blast From The Past)

How does this dress tie into my post today? Well, first of all, this dress was a unique find at a fabulous store called "A Blast From The Past." Now, when I was perusing there store I was not looking for anything in particular but when I found this dress I fell in love....and right away I knew where I would wear it. I wore it to our Prom that year, so you can guess how this dress fits in with my post today:) Was anyone else there wearing a dress like me, um, no!!! I was definitely different but that is always what I go for!! 

I have been to my fair share of homeschool homecomings and prom over the years and each time I seized the opportunity to wear something completely old fashioned and different. Why? Because I have always been different, in more ways than one. Yes, as Christians we are called to be different and stand out, but sometimes we can start to blend in more than we ought. Thus, when given the opportunity to stand out and be noticed for my differences I am always a fan!

This brings me to the part of my post were I will talk about one of my convictions or views on a certain topic or area of my life. Therefore, here is a peak today into my views on the subject of being different through modesty.

First of all, I must say that my standards of modesty are probably different than some of you, but that is not to say that I do not hold modesty as a high standard (my mom actually just did a modesty talk for a group on Tuesday). I have always worn clothes that were appropriate and approved by my parents, while always dressing by my own personal convictions as well. 

There are definitely a wide range of modesty standards that I am sure all of you can attest to living by and each of us lives by different views, but as a whole we do it for a reason. The world has so degraded the way that it tells us to dress and sometimes people dress that way because they honesty do not know any better. However, modesty isn't necessarily dressing to cover ourselves, but more so to guard the eyes and hearts of guys that are around us. We do not want guys to be tempted when they see us because we know that every person we come into contact with is the future spouse of someone else. Thus, we should be dressing for our future husbands and to guard the hearts of others future husbands.

"Modesty isn't about the dress code, it is an attitude of the Heart."

Being modest in a modern world is being different! Realize that you will be noticed as someone who goes against the "status quo." You might sometimes be questioned, made fun of, or laughed at, but it is our calling from our Heavenly Father to clothe ourselves with modest of the heart and body. 

People think that if they dress the way the world tells them too that they will be noticed, but have you ever stopped to think that dressing against what the world says will make you noticed? Not noticed in a bad way, but noticed for being different, going against the flow and standing out!! When you are different people will notice you for the reasons you are different and because of this we have a greater impact on those around us!

Take the stand and BE DIFFERENT!!!

Hello dear readers! Well, I guess you can tell it is cold where; I mean it is FREEZING, RIGIDLY COLD!!! No, not really, in fact we have not had any weather below 60 for the past couple of weeks which is slightly depressing since there are what, nine days till Christmas. Apart from the somewhat dreary and unmagical weather we have been experiencing, you would have thought that with this Christmas break I would be posting all the time, however, here I am, posting only the second time since this semester ended. Evidently, my life is still busy during the holidays, and blogging still ends up getting put on the back burner. However, her is a post that I am excited about, all because of these MARVELOUS "Every Opportunity Pants" in Burgundy that just arrived from Modcloth!

Don't you just love these pants!? I bought them a few weeks ago when Modcloth was having a sale on some of their fabulous pieces and I was fortunate enough to grab these for a great deal. I absolutely adore Modcloth, unfortunately, I only have bought three pieces from them since I can never bring myself to spend a large sum of money on one piece of clothing (though it would be well worth it) when I know I could save it for something else. Nevertheless, my three pieces from Modcloth are some of my favorite treasures (and I might just do a post sometime about them). While I had plans of taking some wonderful pictures to capture this ensemble today, time went by fast and the light quickly faded, forcing me to snap these pictures in my grandparents backyard. On top of the unplanned setting for the picture and the dark lighting, my camera many times refuses to take clear pictures on a self timer, so I guess I need to invest in a hand held shutter button. Still figuring out how to take good picture of myself, and you would think that with a good camera it would be a breeze, but sometimes cameras can have a mind of their own. 

Enough with my ramblings. However, I need to take about these pants! Okay, so you probably already established the fact that I love these pants, and that they are amazing, and perfect, and from Modcloth, and so on and so forth. Now, why are they amazing? I am a Huge fan of high waisted pants, buttons, and sailor styles, and these pants were perfectly a combination of all. The color is very unique but oddly matches a number of tops in my ever growing closet. Furthermore, they are of a nice flowy fabric, not to heavy and hot like other pants, which makes them versatile for every season. Secondly, I tend to wear styles form the 1940's most days and these pants were a perfect addition to my styles from that era. Oh, and did I mention that the back of the pants is actually elastic, so yes, they are very comfortable.

This picture makes me think of someone who is trying to avoid the paparatzi!

                When it comes to golfing there is no doubt about it, I can admit that I am the worst golfer on earth! For that reason I have willingly accepted the position of being a driver of the gold cart; I mean seriously, who wouldn’t want to just drive around a gold course for a day (even if the gold cart doesn’t go near fast enough)?

                Last Sunday we went golfing for my Dad’s 50th birthday, and granted, while we only go golfing once or twice a year, it is usually a fun day, even if I am just a spectator. However, if I have no choice but to go along on those family outing I might as well embrace those rare golfing days to have fun in putting together a fabulous old fashioned golfing ensemble!

Dress: Plato's Closet (Heritage 21)

I had a simply splendid time today with the lovely Asten Davis of Jane of All Trades, as she allowed me to impose upon her photographing skills and snap some pictures (before we had class) of me for this post. I have been missing many a day of capturing my ensembles from either feeling uninspired, or not wanting to put up with the hassel of taking my own pictures. Thankfully today was different!

I cannot tell you how wonderful it was, from the "almost" fall weather, to the greenery around me, to the most perfect dress and hair, or to the BEST pictures I have had in awhile. While the rest of today might have been filled with loads of homework and preparations for dinner, it was the knowledge that I had beautiful pictures and a post to write that got me to the place I am now, sitting in a chair and stairing at the screen before me, feeling inspired. 

This picture is a bit blurry but I just pretend that it is all part of the art, especially since I love the picture to much, but then again if you squint your eyes it looks clear:)

Now, where should I go from here? I suppose I might as well tell you dear readers about my favorite pieces from this outfit. First of all, the mustard sweater that was a treasure from my grandmother is absolutely to die for! Most people might abhor the color, but I on the other hand LOVE it, and honestly wish I could somehow wear a smidgen of it every day:) Nonetheless, it went splendidly with this dress because it just so happened that the dress had hearts that were the same color. 

Traveling now to one of my favorite dresses in my collection and such a treasure at that. I picked this dress up at a resale store we have around here called Plato's Closet (it is where college kids can bring their clothes and get a little extra cash). Normally all they have is modern styles that I do not typically wear, but every once and awhile providence has its way and I find a perfect piece. The interesting part about this dress is that it is not even vintage but gives off all the ares of a dress straight from the 40's. It is actually a Forever 21 dress from their brand Heritage 21 (which tends to sometimes be vintage). At first I was hesitant to purchase the dress because it is a sheer fabric and was missing the liner, but the dress was calling out my name and I couldn't turn a deaf ear to it's pleas. It is now one of my favorites, plus, it has colorful hearts all over the fabric which just makes me happy!:)

Apart form the perfect dress, I decided to curl my hair for the first time in awhile which made the day and  my ensemble even more inspiring. I have greatly missed that 40's look with curls and victory rolls! But whenever I have the time I am bound to seize the opportunity before it slips away or before I decide that I am to lazy to do "bandanna curls" (which are crazy super easy).

All in all, today was quite rewarding and productive blog wise, and I hope to find the time to capture all of my fall ensembles if fall will hurry up and arrive already, but in the meantime I hope you are inspired to be yourself and enjoy the fun of being an old fashioned soul.

        Okay, so you might be wondering, well a lot probably? Or maybe not that much, considering that I have only posted one time so far, but I know that from my perspective, when I go to the blogs I follow (make sure to check them out on the left side) I want to get a glimpse into who that lovely blogger really truly is. Now as for my blog, there are multiple ways to do this, I could have a post consisting wholy of  Q&A questions I think you lovely readers might be wondering or want to ask me, or I could simply have a second post steryotypical of any other up and coming blogger. However, I prefer to be unordinary, different, and well, approach thing from a new side (not that this will prove to be that different from other starting bloggers). But needless to say here it goes, or at least my best shot!!!

        I guess that I should start with the "WHAT", for my blog, what first inspired me in wanting to start a blog. It was probably two years ago that I happened to stumble onto this amazing website called Modcloth (http://www.modcloth.com/), you might have heard of it? Well lo and behold I realized how utterly FABULOUS this company was and how much I had been missing in the way of their wonderful clothes and inspiration for the vintage soul :) For those of you who are Modcloth fans you are probably asking "What was your life like without Modcloth???" :):) Honestly, Modcloth opened me up to becoming obsessed with living a vintage lifestyle and also lead me to discover some of my favorite bloggers who inspired me to start on this path (though it has taken me two years to get here). I remember when I first happened upon Modcloth, they were currently at the time participating in something called "Blogger of The Moment", in which they featured a new personal fashion blogger each moth. That blogger was given a special post on Modcloth's blog as well as having a dress designed and named after them!!! It just so happened that the "Blogger of The Moment" at the time was the lovely Kate from All This Happiness (http://www.allthishappiness.blogspot.com/), whose blog I absolutely adore. Once I visited her blog I fell in love with the idea of becoming a fashion blogger (and for awhile it was my dream to become a "Blogger of The Moment" one day). Then I discovered Ashley Ording with her blog Fancy Fine  (http://www.ashleyording.com/), which is another one of my favorites. This summer I emailed her with some questions about starting my blog. It was such a treat to hear her suggestions. She gave me some great advice on starting my blog, as well as helping me decide which blog name to settle on, so you might say that the birth of Minnie Muse was partly thanks to her:). 

Ever since that day two years ago, my life hasn't been the same!

       Now, for the "WHY". Well, I LOVE fashion, especially Vintage, and I LOVE to write!!! So what better way for me to pursue two of the things I love than to start a vintage fashion blog to express my love and passion for vintage and share that love with you lovely readers! I have learned so much over these year about the world of vintage in the 21st century, and that is what I want to share. I believe that it is our duty as "vintage souls" to inspire each other in our way of dressing, to share with one another what eras we love, where we find our treasures, and what makes us continuously wake up every day ready to step into an ensemble that makes us feel like we could do anything!!

       While each of us might think that we are just plain old ordinary, or even believe that we are simply another "Average Jane", we all have the ability to be EXTRAordinary!!! So seize that power, let it inspire you to be the true you! Live every day with joy and a since of adventure knowing that you are the true you, and that when people see the way you dress, though they may think it to be a bit "odd", they know that you are someone who is confident in who they are!!! Let what you love inspire you to live a life you love!
