Summer Favorites Pt. 2: Hair Care, Beauty, & Skincare

Friday, September 4, 2020

While Fall is right around the corner, I wanted to make sure I shared my FAVORITE beauty products from this summer. I have discovered a lot of new brands and products that I absolutely love and that really are game changers in my routine!

Hair Care:

The Good Stuff: Volumizing & Hydrating Foam- I LOVE this stuff! I never feel like their is extra product in my hair, but yet I can feel a difference in my hairs health and texture.
The Good Stuff: No Rinse Color Hair Conditioner - Since I dye my hair I love using this to help my color last and it also smells amazing!
Dove Dry Shampoo - I have been using this same dry shampoo since college and always go back to it because it works. It doesn't have a horrible white cast and it also leaves your hair fresh.
T3 Wand - I know a lot of people use and talk about the T3 wand, and I can definitely say that it is worth the type (and the price). I love the shape of the barrel (and the fact that I can buy other sizes). My hair also lasts two days with these curls which is a double bonus! (plus, it doesn't make your hair smell fried)
Kristin Ess Detangler - This is my go to detangler because it is simple, fragrance free, and helps me feel more confident about brushing my hair without damaging it.
CALA Detangling Hair Brush - While we are on the topic of tangled hair, I recently discovered the CALA detangling brush and it is absolutely amazing! I love that it is curved and contours to my head. Honestly I think this brush is better than the Wet brushes.
Clairol 6R Light Auburn Hair Dye - This summer I have been trying out a new hair dye, and have been using the light auburn 6R shade from Clairol. I really like the natural shade of this color, but the only downside is the vibrancy in the color doesn't last as long as I would like.

Skincare:

Cerave Foaming Face Wash - This face wash is all the hype on TikTok and Youtube and it definitely should be because it is such a great product. I used to use this in High School and only just started using it again this summer. I love that it is gentle and full of great ingredients that build up your skin.
Cerave Moisturizing Cream - I always feel that my skin gets super dry with changes in the weather, so I have been living for Cerave's moisturizing cream.
Ordinary Niacinamide & Zinc Serum - This is another one of those products that has blown up on the internet, but I actually first used it about a year ago and just picked it up again this summer. I love the ingredients in it that are great for breakout prone skin.
Urban Skin RX: Clear Skin Cleansing Balm - This is quite a unique product that I have really been loving in helping keep my hormonal breakouts at bay. It has sulfur which helps with breakout prone skin, plus you can also use it as a mask.
First Aid Beauty Sunscreen - This sunscreen is awesome! I have been consistently using it this summer and even use just this (no makeup) on some days. This sunscreen is mineral based also tinted.

Beauty:

Burts Bees Peppermint Lip Balm - This is my favorite lip balm of all time! I love the refreshing feel of pepermint and it always helps keep my lips unchapped.
Glossier Stretch Concealer (G12) - I never thought I would be a glossier fan and then I tried it and they changed my mind! The stretch concealer is the main foundation I use, and just apply it to the areas I need a bit of coverage. My favorite makeup artist, Katie Jane Hughes uses this concealer all the time in her looks, and it really does work and give the best natural finish.
Glossier Cloud Paint (Dawn) - I love a good cream paint and couldn't pass up trying Glossier's cloud paint in Dawn for the perfect peachy shade, and I absolutely love it!
Florence by Mills Brow Gel (honey) - I have recently gotten into using brow gel for a more natural brow style and the Brow Gel from Florence by Mills brand at Ulta is one of the only red/auburn colors that I have found.

Have you tried any of these products?

Wednesday, August 23, 2017

I am back again with a NEW makeup tutorial and a fabulous post about my new favorite products with L'Oreal Paris! I have been a huge fan of L'Oreal Paris for years, but never ventured out of their mascaras, however after receiving a number of their new products I fell in love with everything about them and how perfectly they fit into my everyday makeup routine and life!

I was pretty blown away by the mascara, foundation, and lipstick and can't get enough of either one! As always, you can find any of the L'Oreal Paris products at your local drugstore or Target and they are definitely my new go to for a professional quality at an affordable price. My 4 Foolproof Brow Products

Tuesday, July 25, 2017

**All products were received for free, complimentary of Influenster and L'Oreal Paris**

When it comes to ones daily makeup routine I feel that brows are often the last thing you tend to think about. Maybe its because you don't want to take the time to shape your brows or maybe its because you haven't found the right product or tool to make the job easy peasy? I know I have been on the search for the perfect brow product over the past couple of years. I have tried nearly a dozen different pencils, gels, you name it, but nothing compares to these 4 foolproof products that I am sharing with you today!
I can't tell you how much I LOVE these four brow products and how they have completely changed my brow game, making it easier to work my brows into my makeup routine every day as well as give my brows a natural but defined shape. Whatever shade or consistency you are after these 4 products will be exactly what you need.

I received this Maybelline brow chalk free from influenster, and oh my gosh it is AMAZING! Unlike the typical brow products that are loose or pressed powders, this particular revolutionary formula is a chalk, which makes all the difference because it sticks better to your brows and stays all day without smudging. If you are looking for a brow product that will give you a defined shape in a smidgen of the time you HAVE to CHECK out Maybelline's Brow Drama Shaping Chalk, because this is what I reach for 95% of the time!

Mechanical pencil automatically sells this product for me! One of my go to brow products has always been brow pencils, but this one is created with a different technology than usual and has a mechanical end that is wide on one side for filling and pointy on the other end for shaping. If I am in a rush this is definitely what I reach for and it has a brow brush on the far end to blend the strokes together.

Okay, this brow tool is the coolest ever! Kabuki brushes are apparently a new fad in beauty and pairing it with a brow product has to be one of the greatest ideas! On one end of this tool is a fat pencil for filling in your brows (which works so great) and the other end has a kabuki brush for blending everything together with shape. The brush end is definitely a game changer when it comes to blending and I love how natural it makes my brows look.

If you are familiar with brow pencils this is probably one of my favorites that I have been using off and on over the years. One, you don't need a sharpener and two, its easy to use. This micro pencil definitely gives your brows a defined shape, so if you are going for a less natural look this is the tool for you.

Do you work brows into your makeup routine?
Have you used any of these brow products?

Holiday Makeup Picks with e.l.f.

Friday, December 2, 2016

All products c/o e.l.f via Influenster
Picture props all from Target

I don't know about you, but the holidays are always a time that I love to be more festive when it comes to makeup, whether that be creating fun look for a party or pulling out new products and colors to fit the season. This holiday season I am especially LOVING the products e.l.f. has to offer! I have always been a fan of e.l.f because of not only their affordable priced, but also due to their great quality! That is why I was soooooo SUPER EXCITED to receive the e.l.f. Vox Box from Influenster a couple of weeks ago! In the vox box I received a number of exciting products to try, all of which were brand new to me and I must say that I have been blown away by the results.

With the holiday season in full swing I wanted to share my new favorite e.l.f products with you all that are perfect for all of your holiday and Christmas needs!

    • e.l.f Hydrating Bubble Mask: I have to say that this might just be my favorite product from the vox box! I had never heard of a bubble mask before so I was curious as to what it would do for my skin. True to its name the mask goes on like a gel but within minute bubbles up to a fluffy white foam and makes your skin feel so fresh and rejuvenated. With the harshness for winter weather this mask is definitely super beneficial in adding moisture back into my skin.
    • e.l.f Matte Lip Color in Wine: I will admit that I was a little uncertain about this lip color as I haven't always had good luck with e.l.f lipsticks in the past. However, this lipstick completely changed the game and I have been wearing it 24/7. I love that it comes in a smaller pen like applicator, and the "wine" color is utter perfection for the holiday season. While it might not stay on as long as some lipsticks, it definitely lasts longer than other drug store brands I have.
    • e.l.f Mineral Infused Face Primer: Still haven't decided if I like this primer yet? I had previously been using the Rimmel London primers and loved them, but I thought I would give this one a try! It is more of a gel consistency rather than a cream and goes on very smoothly. However, other than that I haven't decided if it helps my makeup routine or not?
    • e.l.f Lip Exfoliator in Mint Maniac: I was definitely excited to get this lip exfoliator in the box, because I always love using an exfoliator every now and then. With this one it is so simple to use because you apply it like lipstick and then wipe it off. The exfoliate is sugar and minty, so it feels great on your lips and smooths them out for applying lipstick.
    • e.l.f Baked Highlighter & Bronzer in Bronzed Glow: I have become an avid user of bronzer, either by itself or paired with a blush color. Therefore I can't say enough about this bronzer because not only is it a subtle iridescent tan color, but paired with the twin highlighter it gives your face the perfect and natural glow....I have been using this EVERY day since I got it:) Also.....easy makeup hack for you lovelies, is that you can use your bronzer (this one especially) for your eyeshadow and it give you a perfect natural glow!!

Have you use e.l.f before?
Are any of these products familiar to you?
Do you use any of these products in a different brand?

Summer Makeup Tutorial

Wednesday, August 31, 2016

Happy Wednesday lovelies! I thought I would change things up a bit today and share a tutorial with you all.....actually its a summer makeup tutorial! Now, I know you all are itching for fall to arrive just as much as I am, but knowing the weather here in Texas I will probably have to endure at lease another month of summer type weather. Therefore, if you ever wondered what my go to is in the hot months and sunshine days this is the tutorial for you!

To be honest this summer my makeup routine was GREATLY influenced by Linda (pictured below) from the movie My All American. Not only do I love the styles of the movie #1960's, and totally incorporated that era into my summer wardrobe, but I also loved the light, natural, and peachy tones that Linda always wore.

Here is a list of the products that I used:

Primer: Rimmel London "Fix & Perfect Pro"
Base Foundation: COVERGIRL "tru BLEND" in shade i1
Conceiler: COVERGIRL "Ready Set Gorgious" in fair
Highlighter: MAYBELLINE "Fit Me" in Porcelain 110
Loose Powder: CLINIQUE blended face powder in 08 Transparencey neutral
Blush: e.l.f. "Candid Coral"
Eye Shadow: e.l.f. gold compact in "Enchanted"
White Highlight Shadow: MAYBELLINE white compact
Brows: MAYBELLINE "BROWprecise" micro crayon in light brown
Mascara: REVLON "Volume + Length" magnified in Blackened Brown
Lipstick: Rimmel London "Lasting Finish Katie" in shade 12

Granted, my hair is not done in this video so if I wasn't filming a hair tutorial (HERE) right after this makeup tutorial that day, than I would have TOTALLY done a 1960's style to go along with this look. However, total transparency is that my hair is in a messy bun when I wake up in the morning and usually stays that way till my makeup is done!

All in all, I hope you all enjoyed the video:)

Are you a fan of natural peachy makeup pallets?
Have you ever used any of these products?

Beauty Basics: Makeup Routine

Wednesday, April 27, 2016

Welcome to the third installment of the Beauty Basics series! Today will be a bit of a lengthy post as it is focused on the contents of my makeup bag, though I hope to keep the writing short and let the pictures speak for themselves. As a blogger and someone who takes a keen interest in experimenting with different makeup styles and techniques I love reading about others products and routine. Thus, today you lovely readers will get a glimpse into the contents of my makeup bag.
Step #1 starts with the primer, foundation, concealer, and a highlighter.
I LOVE the Rimmel London "Stay Matte" primer though Rimmel's "Fix & Perfect" is fabulous as well. As someone whose skin tends to get oily later in the day I have found that starting off with a primer is vital to my makeup lasting longer and appearing less shiny.
After primer comes my liquid foundation. For the longest time I have been using Maybelline "Dream Pure BB 8-IN-1 Beauty Balm" clearing perfecter in the Light Sheer Tint. This line has two versions of the foundation, one without Salicylic Acid and one with it, I prefered to use the one with the Salicylic Acid because it is nice to use a foundation that has a treatment for acne. However, I recently wanted to try something new and also needed a lighter color (problems of being pale) so I have recently been using COVERGIRL "Tru Blend i 1" liquid makeup base. So far I am loving the feel of this foundation as well as its shade and lasting capabilities.
After I apply my foundation I use a concealer to cover up any problem areas and use a lighter concealer as a highlighter to brighten my face. For a concealer I have been using the Maybelline 15 fair concealer. I had also used the Clinique acne solutions "Clearing Concealer" but the color did not work for me. As for a highlighter I absolutely LOVE Maybelline "Fit Me Shine-Free +Balance"foundation stick. This stick works great to use in specific areas of my face as a highlighter and also cuts back on shine.
After I have used my primer, foundation, and concealer/highlighter I then blend in my Clinique loose powder "08 Transparency Neutral" to finish off the base look and blend everything together.
Step #2 Blush
Now for the blush. I tend to match my blush with my eye shadow. Therefore, if I have a pink tinted or colorful eye shadow I go for the e.l.f. "Mellow Mauve." However, when I go with a natural eye color or a gold I choose to use the e.l.f. "Candid Coral" shade.
Step #3 Eye Shadow
As for eye shadow my routine and look varies by outfit, day, feeling, and technique. Most often I tend towards a brown or tan from any one of my pallets whether that be an Estee Lauder pallet or drug store Pro Fusion "Natural" pallet. I also LOVE the e.l.f. gold shade called "Enchanted". Whatever shade I use for the day I always finish off the look by highlighting right above my brow with a Maybelline white and blend it together with whatever color I chose.
Step #4 Brows
Brows are finished off by using COVERGIRL brow & eye makers pencil in "Soft Blonde" or "Light Brown." After using that to color in my brow (that sounds quite odd to write) I then blend it in with a brow brush to make it look more natural.
Brushes:
When it comes to brushes I am not all that picky when it comes to brands. My grandmother gave me a set of her old Mary Kay brushes which were in perfect condition and I have been using those for a good while. My powder brush and blush brush are Mary Kay. My shadow brush (which I use for loose shadows and blending) is from Artistry. My blending brush is the e.l.f "Small Stippling Brush." I have also started using a pink blending sponge to apply my foundation and I love how it blends everything together smoothly.

Have you used any of these same products?
What are some of your favorite drug store brands?
What is one makeup product you cannot live without?

//Beauty Basics// Makeup Removers

Monday, April 4, 2016

Happy April lovely readers! Can you believe it is already another month....where has this semester gone? I only have a month left for this spring semester and I feel like the semester just started a week ago. However, enough with school and on to a new blog series titled Beauty Basics

When collecting questions for my Q&A I had a few questions about my makeup routine and what products I use. Thus, I thought it would be nice to start a blog series on my beauty routines and what better way to start out the series with some of my favorite Makeup Removers. Now...I know that makeup removers are not the most exciting thing to talk about but when you are wearing makeup it is important to use a makeup remover that fits well with your skin and does the job well. When it comes to my makeup removers I use two different forms: oils, and brand name removers.

Oil Removers:

I remember when I was a little girl and my mom would use baby oil to remove her makeup. To this day this is still one of my favorite ways to remove my makeup. Not only is it gentle on my skin and removes makeup perfectly, but it also smells so powdery and nice!
Apart from Baby Oil, I sometimes use Almond Oil to take off my makeup. While this is not my prreffered method for taking off makeup I do use it on occasions.
Lastly, and most well known and used in the area of beauty now is coconut oil. I recently started using this for multiple areas in my beauty routine, one of which is removing my makeup. Now, coconut oil is more of a solid form than baby oil and almond oil, but it still works great for taking off my makeup with a cotton ball. (fyi....if you are trying to avoid saturated fats in your diet don't use coconut oil because it has the most saturated fat content of all the oils.)

Name Brand Makeup Removers:

Okay...so if you are not up for using something super easy to take off your makeup, one that you can find at the drugstore, than you can go for your name brand products. Now, I don't actually use these all that often and I didn't even buy them (free samples from my great aunt) but I do love how they work. The light blue tube is Estee Lauder "Take IT Away" makeup remover lotion which works sooooo great to take off makeup and not leave any behind....plus it smells great and makes your skin feel clean. Second is Estee Lauder gentle eye makeup remover which I like to use in taking off my eye makeup with a cotton ball. This eye makeup remover is basically just like the makeup remover you can find at the drug store, so if you like this method than you can go for the drug store brands.

All in all, starting off a makeup routine involves starting with how you will take off your makeup. Depending on what my skin is like usually depends on what form of makeup remover I choose to use, For instance if my skin is being slightly dry I typically use almond oil or coconut oil, however if my skin is being normal I like to use baby oil or makeup remover lotion in the shower.

What form of makeup remover is your favorite?
Do you use drug store brands or name brands?
Do you like oil removers, washes, or toner removers?

// Face Time //

Friday, January 23, 2015

Well dear readers, what a treat for both of us that I get to post two times in two days!!! Thankfully I don't have that much work for my classes yet and I was simply dying to share with all of you my beauty regime (not that it is all that exciting). However, I find that I enjoy reading the post other bloggers publish talking about their beauty routine and the products they use, so here is my post on the subject. Lets take a minute for some "face time" and a peak into my makeup bag.

My Face & Skin Routine:

1) Clinique Foaming Sonic Facial Soup (w/ sonic face brush)
2) Clinique Acne Solution Cleansing Foam (w/ face brush)
3) Clinique Clarifying Lotion (toner w/ cotton ball)
4) Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel (AMAZING)
5) Clinique Acne Solutions Clinical (Silicylic Acid)
First let me start at the beginning and at the most important part of my routine, my skin. Now, before I begin I must tell you all that I have very problematic skin! Ugh!! But alas, most of us do, so I deal with it as best I can. I have always struggled with acne prone skin, sometimes having clear months and sometimes fighting a never ending battle. For years I have tried many different treatments from proactive and prescription topical creams, but I recently started using a Clinique system specially tailored to my skin type.

Now, before I go any further, please hear me when I say that I am not discrediting the other treatments I have used, because they did work fairly well for me, but they simply were not the best for my skin; after all everyone's skin is different and those products might very well work wonders for you.
Skin is fickle and there are many factors that contribute to breakouts, weather it be not drinking enough water, hormones, stress, or those sweet treats (CHOCOLATE) that cause a battle to erupt. When I went to the Clinique counter to get a makeover, the wonderful lady (who had a fabulous accent) told me that my breakouts are caused more by stress and hormones, rather than an actual acne problem due to the fact that I only break out on the sides of my face and chin. Well, that was interesting and surprising to hear!!! The crazy thing is that I don't feel stressed, but I know that with school and other factors of life, stress (though I don't notice it) is quite possibly a contributing factor.

Thankfully, I was able to create a routine to fit my skin type. So far I am loving my new routine! While my face has not completely cleared up (but then again college just started), my skin itself feels AMAZING! I had realized over past couple of years, that the general health of my skin had suffered due to the constant use of face medicine. However, now that I have started using Clinique (especially the moisturizer) I no longer have dry skin and I also have less oil. Yay!!!

In My Makeup Bag:

Foundations and Powders: Clinique
Lashes: L'real Original Voluminous Black/Brown
Cheeks: e.l.f Contouring Blush & Bronzer or Mary Kay Strawberry Cream Blush
Lips: eos Mint, Burt's Bees Cherry, or Clinique Chubby Stick baby tint 03 Budding Blossom

Now for the fun part, a peak inside my makeup bag!!! While I am usually a cheapo when it comes to makeup (I hate spending a fortune on it) my mom just recently treated me to some good base makeup (which I kinda needed). Thus, I have started using Clinique makeup products for my foundation. After all, foundation is the first thing that goes on your skin (if you choose to use it in your routine) and you really want something that is beneficial to your face. Thankfully Clinique has an Anti-Blemish Solutions liquid makeup that I use for the base and touch up problem areas with a concealer (which you can get for acne too). These products definitely look better on your skin as well as last longer which is a plus!

When it comes to everything else in my makeup bag, you will not find anything over $10! For blush, I really love pinks but most often I wear the e.l.f. blush that comes with a bronzer. If I want to go more for a pink shimmer, I usually fall back on my Mary Kay Strawberry Cream blush that I  have had forever. Mascara, I use the original  L'oreal but in black/brown. This is the mascara my mom has always used and I really love it (plus it is a reasonable price). Lips wise, I tend to wear chap stick most often and don't even bother with lipstick, so my go to chap stick is eos mint (I love mint chap stick). I also really love the eos coconut milk as well (it tastes so good, hehe). However, if I am feeling like I need a little color for my lips I like to use a light pink Clinique Chubby Stick for a subtle color and Burt's Bees Cherry for that red vintage look (oh, and the red Burt's Bees is mint of course!!).

Oh, and I plum forgot about eyeshadow!!! I tend to be super simple when it comes to this, most often throwing on some tan sparkles, pink shadow, or the Clinique sample I got of Strawberry Fudge (which my sister wears daily). When I want to have a little fun, I will use browns and tans blended together and occasionally (when I feel extra bold and vintage) I will swipe on a quick cat eyeliner (though I haven't quite mastered the quick part).

All in all, I tend to be fairly simple and repetitive when it comes to my makeup and some days I choose to wear less than others depending upon how much time I have and where I am going.

Well lovely readers, that is it for my beauty regime. I hope you enjoyed reading about the different products I use. Until next time!!

What products are your favorite in your routine?

Do you use any of the same products as me?
