Happy Wednesday lovelies! I thought I would change things up a bit today and share a tutorial with you all.....actually its a summer makeup tutorial! Now, I know you all are itching for fall to arrive just as much as I am, but knowing the weather here in Texas I will probably have to endure at lease another month of summer type weather. Therefore, if you ever wondered what my go to is in the hot months and sunshine days this is the tutorial for you!

To be honest this summer my makeup routine was GREATLY influenced by Linda (pictured below) from the movie My All American. Not only do I love the styles of the movie #1960's, and totally incorporated that era into my summer wardrobe, but I also loved the light, natural, and peachy tones that Linda always wore.

Granted, my hair is not done in this video so if I wasn't filming a hair tutorial (HERE) right after this makeup tutorial that day, than I would have TOTALLY done a 1960's style to go along with this look. However, total transparency is that my hair is in a messy bun when I wake up in the morning and usually stays that way till my makeup is done!

I LOVE shopping days! This past Saturday my sister and I decided to have a quick shopping day in the afternoon. We both had $10 off coupons to Charming Charlie's that we wanted to use and I wanted to make a run to Sam Moon. I always treasure the times my sister and I get to spend together, especially since I am moving back up to college in a week and will not see her nearly as much. Thus, shopping has always been our "thing" even if it is just window shopping or trying on fancy dresses at department stores. 

This past Saturday I kind of had a shopping agenda (one thing really) because I was in search of a red purse! Therefore, Sam Moon was my stop to find one and boy were there a great selection of red purses. Apart from finding a darling red purse, I also picked up this fun and colorful straw purse (above) for $3 and a classic watch (which I was in desperate need of). Of course when you buy two new purses you kind of have to pick one for the pictures you are planning to make your sister take while you all are in a fancy part of the city..LOL!

One of the bigger malls near us has a charming shopping center across the street from it called "Market Street," and when I say charming, I mean its basically like its own little high end downtown complete with fancy restaurants, Tiffany & Co, Kate Spade, Starbucks, etc. I always feel so high end when I go there (not that I spend money) and pretend to be an uptown girl for the day....its kind of fun to play along ordering Starbucks (the new Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato is pretty GREAT!), and walking through the shops even if it's only for an hour.  

With the Texas summer heat and humidity in full swing down here, the days are often quite sweltering. This stripped Old Navy dress that I thrifted from Goodwill has been on the repeat lately (I wore it 4 days in a row last week #noshame) because it is the comfiest thing ever, is STRIPED, and is actually a decent length for my long legs. 

As I have mentioned before, the 1960's has been a summer inspiration of mine and this ensemble was no exception! While I quickly threw this look together before heading off for our shopping day, I have to say it turned out very much inspired by Nicole from Writes Like a Girl, because lets be honest, here style is pretty great and she can rock the neck scarf!

I have been trying to experiment lately with different styles, trends, and accessories that I see other fabulous bloggers sporting and this neck scarf was one of those experiments. Aside from the neck scarf (which I am totally now a fan of) this ensemble was full of so many prints, from my sunglasses, scarf, dress, and purse.....but mixing prints is one of the funnest things to do in fashion and gives you a lot of creative license.

I think BOLD and crazy colors are my new favorite thing for summer! My wardrobe is such a random mix of styles, silhouettes, prints, and colors that its completely impossible to pinpoint what I like the most. Sometimes I am all for simple plain earthy tones, sometimes I am all for prints, and other times it is all about the colors! Oh.....and don't even get me started on eras of fashion.....that's a whole nother ballgame. However, to me, summer is truly about the POPS of color that we bring out of our wardrobe and add to the sunny (and hot) days. Therefore, when I think of summer and vibrant colors this candy colored dress is a "dream come true". 

I found this dress at Goodwill last week and fell in love with it when I saw it on the hanger! I immediately thought of the 1960's when I saw the silhouette, colors, and fabric and started dreaming up where I would wear it and with what. To say that this dress is perfect in every way is an understatement, but it truly is perfect! Not to mention that the dress is Talbots, which always happens to be a brand that I buy most often at thrift stores for their classic and timeless styles. While this is most definitely a style that came out in the last couple of years from Talbots, it seems as though it were pulled straight from the 60's and to be honest the 60's seem to be my style muse for the summer (we shall see where that takes me). 

It seems like every summer I make a plan of finding a cotton/spandex dress that is simple and easy to throw on for busy days or when I am in a hurry. Often times however, the dresses fall short as they are of a poor quality or appear way to modern and not classic enough for me. Needless to say, this dress is the complete opposite of all the downsides I have run into before and I am so in LOVE with it. Not only is it so dreamily comfortable, but it is also a sturdy quality which means I don't have to wear a tank top underneath so "hello no heat stroke in the summer humidity!"

While this ensemble would have been perfected by my oversized floral 1960's cat eye style sunnies (left at home) and a head scarf (because you have to keep your hair safe from the wind) I think this look is the first of many to come out of this dress!

You have no clue how "In Love" I am with the crazy combo for this ensemble! I mean, really I am in love with nearly every ensemble I post on the blog but this ensemble is so unique in its mixed prints that I can't help but LOVE it and smile. Besides the fact that this top and skirt are now two of my favorite pieces (honestly I tend to say that about everything) they are also GREATLY inspired by Elana from the blog Room 334 whose simple and classic ensembles have been inspiring me lately and prompted me to make this skirt. 

Truthfully, I have found myself being inspired more and more by fellow bloggers as of late! Just this past weekend, for instance,  I was thrift shopping and the whole time I had flashes of darling ensembles running through my head from a particular blogger I love and nearly every piece of clothing I bought that day was a piece I could see this specific blogger wearing.....it was as if I were shopping her closet! 

Often what we wear is inspired by how we feel and our own personality, but it is intriguing to find other bloggers who have a style similar to your own and who then inspire you with the combinations they themselves put together! Sometimes finding a blogger who shares a fashion style similar to your own can even help you discover new combinations for ensembles or even yield helpful inspiration whenever you are at a lack for what to wear. I have a feeling like this summer will be filled with ensembles inspired by many fabulous bloggers! 

On another note, if you haven't ever heard of DARLING magazine you should totally go check them out right now! Not only is their magazine filled with wonderful articles to fill up the spare moments of your day or weekend, but it is also a magazine cultivated through real life women with inspiring stories. Not to mention that the magazine itself if to just to die for in its construction, cover, photography, and added bonus of being a photo prop:)

Happy one day after Easter! I hope you all enjoyed the short break in which we celebrated the resurrection of our Savior as Jesus conquered death and washed us forever pure and clean with his blood. I for one thoroughly enjoyed my short break which thankfully felt like an eternity, which was nice to enjoy the long days. I always miss spending time with my family while I am up at school so an extra weekend to go home was great! 

As is my method every year, Easter dress preparations start at least a month on advance for brainstorming and usually a few weeks out to actually make the dress. Thankfully I was able to make a slight dent in my sewing pile over spring break, and this 1960's sack dress was one of those projects. Like most of my dresses, this one is made from an old 1960's sheet. Oddly enough, I received the sheet about three years ago from a friend and just now got around to using it for a project. From the moment I first saw this sheet I immediately imagined making a 60's dress out of it and every vision in my mind came true when it was all said and done! I have really been on a 1960's spree recently and this dress was the icing on the cake! 

Of course, you cannot have a fabulous 1960's look  let alone an Easter ensemble without having the perfect hat! Of course, this hat was a treasure I found probably 2 years ago and right when I got it I knew that I wanted to wear it with the dress I was planning on making from the sheet. Needless to say, this ensemble three years in the making but it was all worth it! I have to admit that the 1960's seem to be my spring inspiration and I will most likely be making a few more dresses like this in the future. 

As every Easter is my time to pick a decade, dress up, and wear a fabulous Easter Bonnet this Easter was no different! The fact that my family goes to an old small town Church on Easter Sunday makes the thrill of wearing a vintage ensemble all the more rewarding as the ladies in the congregation grew up in the decades that I dress from and I love seeing their smiles as I walk into the Church, as if stepping from a different decade. One lady even even came up to me when we were greeting everyone and said "I admire you in wearing that hat, it looks lovely."

If anyone says "Blogging Withdrawal" is not a thing they are wrong! Yes, I have been blogging, but not in the capacity that I prefer of sharing outfits with you all. If any of you remember from last week, my Instagram post here where I shared my Goodwill hall.....well I finally got around to taking pictures in the ensemble I bought from that day!! Yay! 

Funny story (and not so funny....but that part would take to long) is that I was planning on taking these pictures last Saturday with more of a 60's vibe of bouffant hair, a headband, curls, and loafers. Needless to say even though I got up that morning and pampered for the shoot the day ended up being not the greatest and ended with me watching Netflix in pajamas on my bead with full makeup and hair.....but sometimes that's just how life is!

I can't help but look at this sweater, skirt, and booties and think of Lauren from Someone Like You whose style lately has got me so inspired to delve more into the 60's and 70's realm of vintage, like she did in this post. Furthermore, with my hair the way it was for this look I was struck by how much it mirrors something I would find Alexandria wearing over at Larkspur Vintage because her style is to die for as well! 

With all this being said I must say I am quite liking the whole late 60's early 70's look. I never thought myself much of a fan for wearing styles from these eras, or usually didn't even try because of my long legs (hehe), but these pieces perfectly captured the essence of those decades while still keeping it classy. 

Originally I hadn't even planned or pictured wearing tights with this skirt but when I was getting ready this morning I had a revelation and quickly ran to my closet and pulled out my mustard tights (you know I am a sucker for that color), and boy was I thrilled that the color matched perfectly!! Plus wearing tights added a little warmth for the changing temperature swings we are currently experiencing here:) 

All in all I think this look or variations of it just might be a recurring theme for the next couple of months...that is until it gets warm. However, for not I am totally up for trying something new and different than my norm and this definitely fits the bill.
